Are there any federal work study positions that you guys would recommend? Something that provides a great learning experience, while not overloading the student. I've always wanted to work at the CDC. As a freshman, would the commute there as a work study student be reasonable?

thanks

It’s literally across the street from the core (you can see its buildings from main campus easily b/c it might as well be a part of campus). You could easily walk to and from there, and if you need to enter at the portion down the hill and don’t feel like walking, there is a wesley woods shuttle that drops off at that entrance. The only issue is the security clearances. However, if you land the job, they’ll square that away, and you’ll get the necessary access w/o hassling too much each day. I know several people who took such a job. It worked out (don’t know what their job entailed, just know they were at CDC).

thanks! There are very few positions available. If I do not land it, do you recommend any other jobs?

I don’t know. There will be a workstudy job fair that will reveal all types of positions/jobs available.

when/how do you know you got it?

your financial aid package will indicate if it is a component or not.

no i mean after you apply when/how do you know you got the job?

I believe they would e-mail or call you just as a normal job would. That’s what my memory tells me at least.

how long does it usually take after you apply? is it ok to apply to more than 4 at the same time?

That varies (my experience tells me at most 2 weeks. But I’m sure some have experienced worse). I don’t think they care about how many you apply to.

did they call you or email? what did you do?

Often they will e-mail you and ask you to come and discuss the hours you are willing to work (provided that they don’t ask it via e-mail). Calm down, don’t worry about this. It is really easy to do. It will come together. There will be a work study job fair and you can start from there. In some cases like the library jobs, you can walk in and get an application and fill it out right there (as opposed to online). There is nothing difficult about the process (experiences may vary from one person to another in terms of reciprocating interest though). Cross the bridge when you get to it.

I’m having trouble logging into Eagle Ops. It doesn’t use the same password as OPUS and It looks like I can’t reset it. What do I do ?
