Fee waived? What's going on?

<p>On the payment tab of the Common App online forms, some schools have
"$** (waived for online submission)". I'm assuming that this means that I won't have to pay the application...but why is there an option next to the college that says that you can pay by check?</p>

<p>In some cases the fee is waived if you apply electronically (so you don't have to pay then).</p>
