Hi guys, my question is: what do I have to do to get a fee waiver for college application and what is the financial limit for fee waiver? Are there also waivers taking the SATs and sending the scores to colleges?

There are difinitely waivers for SAT exams & score sending (up to 4 campuses per waiver). However, you need to qualify for some requirements. If you are currently having free lunch at your school, then you are probably already qualified.

Application wise, you need to request it directly with your counselor so they can give you a collegeboard fee waiver for the CommonApplication. If that’s not possible, you need to write a letter directly to the campus you are applying for asking if they can waive your application fee because of xxx reasons (basically explaining the reasons that are inhibiting you from paying). However, do request waivers early in advance because they tend to run out or the counselor might be busy and might take awhile to complete them for you.

Good luck :D!

Edit: Just realized you’re an international student, so I’m not sure if your school will cover these waivers. You might as well ask and it they don’t, directly email the CollegeBoard and ask if there are any other methods!

The regular fee waiver program does not apply to international students. You can email the admissions offices of the colleges you are applying to and ask if they would grant you a fee waiver and how to proceed. You will have to pay for the SATs and score reports though.

thanks guys, but my problem is that i’m from croatia and in no one from my high school ever studied abroad, so we don’t have a counselor or someone similar :/

Most foreign schools don’t have the equivalent of an American counselor. You will need a “counselor” for admissions purposes though, someone to sign off on the school-related paperwork. International students frequently work with their principal or vice principal. My own school assigned to each class one teacher who was in charge of class administrivia - I asked him to act as my counselor for admission purposes. Whoever you choose, it should be someone with full access to your student file.

For application fee waiver ask your principal/ your course coordinator/ school administrator to write a letter explaining that paying for the application fee is a financial burden for you.

SAT fee waivers are not for international students ( you have to be a US resident to qualify for that)
