Fee waivers?

How do you get fee waivers? I plan to apply to some ivies and am low-income. Do I have to request them from the school?

Yes, you must request them from and they must be signed by your guidance counselor. Most will ask you to bring in the supporting documentation , if they do not have it already on record at the school.
Keep in mind that the college board only allows 4 fee waivers.

i'm curious too. I also qualify for fee waivers too. So is the 4 the max u can get for free? if i apply to four UCs, can i still apply to other schools using fee waivers, if i request them specifically from the private schools?

check with your GC's as the UCs may have their own fee waiver where they allow you to apply to a number of colleges (I know that SUNY- state university of New York and CUNY- city university of new york as public universities have their own separate fee waivers for their residents)

Fee Waivers
UC will waive application fees for up to four campuses for qualified students who otherwise would be unable to apply for admission. To be accepted for the fee waiver program, you must meet specific requirements related to your family income and size. The fee waiver program is for United States citizens and permanent residents only.

Students who qualify for fee waivers and who select more than four campuses must pay $60 for each additional choice.

You can apply for a fee waiver within the online application and be notified immediately whether you have qualified.

If you are filing a paper application, there are several ways to apply for a fee waiver:

High school students: Use the College Board fee waiver form, available from your high school counselor. Submit it with your application.

EOPS Community College Students: If you are enrolled in Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS) at a California community college, obtain a fee waiver authorization from the EOPS office. Submit it with your application.

All Applicants: Qualified students may obtain a UC fee waiver authorization at a UC campus Admissions, Relations with Schools or Educational Opportunity Program office. When requesting a fee waiver authorization, be prepared to answer questions about your family's gross income and size.

If you are unable to obtain a UC fee waiver authorization due to time constraints, you may attach a letter to your application for admission stating your gross family income and the number of family members supported by that income, and requesting consideration for an application fee waiver.

Thanks.

I'm still not clear about private schools though. If I get 4 fee waivers for the UC schools, will I still be able to waive application fees at private schools?

I have a q as well, sorry to hi-jack, I just don't mean to make another thread.

which schools (is there a site possibly listing them) give fee-waivers when applying online? I'm not low-income, but I know schools such as American and St. Johns do it...

virtuoso

You can get the 4 UC fee waivers when you apply online. For the other schools, you will have to get your guidance counselor to sign it and send it in with your application

Im confused, so if you apply online you can only ask for the fee waiver online? or can you apply online and send your fee waivers separately?

cat

The UCs allow you to apply for the fee waiver when you are filling out the online application.

For the other schools, I think my son applied online but sent in the fee waiver snail mail.
