Feedback From Tour Yesterday

First, it was freezing cold and still 20 or so kids showed up for the tour.

INFO: emails are not to be taken as anything other than an email wishing your happy holidays or happy birthday. it depends on what list you have gotten on or whether your email has been recorded, etc. these emails are not the same as the ones called lls. likely letters are letting you know that unc has noticed you.

decisions: we were told that even if you changed your address or phone number now, there would be no need to notify them cause the decisions are going out soon. and that the email would be too. i got the impression that they were watching how they said that so that we would not know exactly when but i gathered the envelopes are already addressed.

WHAT THEY ARE LOOKING FOR AND AT: Transcripts are the top factor. more than sats or gpa. if your classes have been strong all through hs and if your gpa has continued to go up instead of down.

ESSAYS: who are you and what can you give to unc. this is important. are you commited to anything.

SAT or ACT scores: in: 1200-1300s oos 1300-1400s
Act high 20's for in 30-32 oos

Great feed back. Thanks 2007mom

hello again.
i am now seeing that you are at unc for a tour and that you must have received the info you've communicated from a tour person.
is that correct?
o my.
things are getting scarier by the day.
thanks

Thanks 2007Mom for delivering the report as promised.

Forgive me for hanging on your every word, but did you get the impression that a likely letter was a good indicator of acceptance or just a we "noticed you", nice application, good luck?

Thanks again!

wow, the LL think has been beaten to death. IF YOU GOT A LL, THAT IS A GREAT INDICATION FOR ADMISSION. IF YOU DID NOT GET ONE, DON'T WORRY, THE VAST MAJORITY OF THOSE ADMITTED DO NOT.

2007 mom: One question: The "what they look at" factors-are those the minimum for admission, in otherwords, if an applicant does not have that (I'll use , say, SAT, in that range), are they automatically deferred/denied, or is there a chance they could still be accepted?

Also, does UNC even defer EA?

I agree it was beaten to death until 2007Mom bought fresh meat back from the farm.

LOL in the face of a new bone to pick, 2007Mom's words "we noticed you" as opposed to "your golden" caused my neurosis to flair up.

Lets face it we knew she was heading down there yesterday.

If we had been thinking we would have a) begged her to take our questions along, and b) had her video the whole thing. We could all be watching it on YouTube instead of holding our breath waiting for every scintillating detail she can remember. :)

I really don't understand how UNC could send out a likely letter in which they invite kids to come for a day in the life of a student, allow time enough to pass for kids to sign up for that, and then defer or reject them. I think that the only way you would get deferred or rejected following a likely letter would be if something had gone really wrong, with grades or behavior. But we shall see...

P.s. Thanks, 2007mom, for the info. :)

From your lips (or fingertips) to heaven's ears Avantgarden! :)

idk she was visiting lol.

funny story: i visited Harvard over the summer (my cousin is a student there, so i went to see him), and we were walkin past all these tour groups. there were like 20 kids in each one, and i swear,at least 17 of em had vid cams. i was like, 'ok, out of you 20, 2 are going to get in.'....maybe not that funny, but if you'd a been there, it would have been hilarious.

Yeah she mentioned it on a different thread a day or two ago. I should have mentioned it. OTOH, the poor lady might have been overwhelmed with our $h*t. :)

BTW, of the 17 with vid cams at the Harvard visit what do you think the chances are that some were college consultants reselling the footage???
