Feedback (No chance?)

Didn't get any feedback from anyone. So let me try again!

I am really wanting to apply my ED to Tufts.

My GPA weighted is around a 3.65-3.7. There is no unweighted in my school. That GPA ranks me about 30/550 kids in my class (AT MOST - could be less).

ACT: Would love a 30. A 27 is more reasonable.

EC's amazing.
Rotary Scholarship to Chile (my whole junior year...1 year)
Taught English in Chile weekly
Good Leadership spots
Competitive Swimming 9th 10th 12th Letterd/Do not plan to swim in college...only amateurly
Student Council 9th 10th 12th (Positions Held)

Do I stand a chance?
And financial aid. Absolutely can't afford 40,000 a year. I read on the website that aid is limited, however, on other sites it seems a lot of people had there need met. Did a lot of people receive aid?

It basically comes down to this...with the 30 or higher, you have a good shot, with a 27, you have a much smaller chance. As for aid, I got roughly 95+% this year as an incoming Freshman, and almost all of it is grants, so, don't worry about that aspect.

i got in this year and got tremendous financial aid. of course, my mom made 30k this year, is a sinlge mother, and is putting me and my sister through college

a lot of people i know didnt get much. it depends on ur situation.

and yeah, get at least a 30 ACT if u want a decent chance. ur rank is good and GPA is ok (i had a 3.70 weighted), but i was on the very low end

u need a good ACT score, and a strong app

thanks so much for the feedback. looks like i have a chance if i have a strong application and SHOOT for a 30. looks like i am going to have to get geometry tutoring.

I got in ED II with a 28, good EC's, and a 3.9, so you have hope.

Sounds great. Another question. I hope "yall" don't mind me asking this - if you apply ED and you are accepted...do you HAVE to go to Tufts. If I am not offered financial aid, there is no way I can attend. And it is possible that they might not offer me aid.

You are bound by a contract if you are accepted ED. If you break this agreement, other universities will "blacklist" you and you will be hardpressed to get into a reputable college.

Wow, now I am beginning to feel it is unreasonable for me to apply to Tufts ED. My families income is pretty high, because both of my parents work, but I am sure that they can't pay 40,000 a year (especially with my brother in college too)...

You should consider swimming at Tufts. I know someone who lives at the sailing/swimming frat house and its a great time. The teams get along and all... also Tyler from the Real World swam at tufts...

I don't know. I love swimming. But I don't think I would survive at college level...even though I come from the number 1 4A boys team in Texas.

I am going to look up Tufts times and see what I need to aim for senior year.

Scratch that: I would qualify in the 500 yard freestyle. One of the swimmers does a 5:53 and I did a 5:34 soph. year. Guess we'll just have to wait and see. :D

I guess I really just don't want to be recruited for swimming. But I will consider it!

It's the summer. Life is slow. Why don't you call up the financial aid office and try to get an estimate of what Tufts will cost your family? Don't do this in October, when everyone who is applying ED (or thinking about it) will have the same question.

There may be a clause that you can back out of the ED contract if you don't get adequate fin. aid; however, financial aid offers may not come through until it's too late for you to apply to other schools. Find out from Tufts when your fin. aid offer would come through if you apply ED.

That is a great idea. I really appreciate all of your posts. Much helpful than other students from other schools.

I am definetly going to do that. It can't hurt.
