My son has been accepted to Lehigh in fall for industrial engineering, any feedback on Lehigh is welcomed. I am also interested in knowing if there is another engineering track that combines some business with engineering and that my have more growth potential for his career?

operations research major isn't really engineering but does combine engineering techniques with business fundamentals. I'm not sure if it is offered at Lehigh but can definitely tie in as a paralell to IE.

The industrial engineering department at Lehigh offers degrees in both industrial engineering and information and systems egnineering. Industrial engineering is more manufacturing based while the information and systems engineering focused more around programming and operations research. Your son won't have to decide until after his first year because all engineering majors take the same classes their first year. I just finished my second year as an information and systems engineering major and I like it a lot. My professors have all been excellent and class sizes range from 15-40 people for sophomore/junior level classes and will only get smaller. I believe the industrial engineering graduate program is the highest ranked at Lehigh (15th?) as well, which is pretty good considering the size of the school and department.

As for career stuff, starting salary information can be found here ISE Department at Lehigh University . I can't speak for industrial engineering, but my advisor has told me that since the information and systems engineering degree was started a few years ago, almost all of the 10-20 graduates per year have had jobs before they graduated if they weren't going to grad school. Most people seem to go into consulting, accounting, and other financial type stuff. The information and systems engineering major is the highest paid engineering major at Lehigh, although it looks like the average this year is skewed because someone put down a 100k+ starting salary because they probably included bonuses and whatever else from a financial analyst position. The average last year was 57,300 or so which would still be the highest paid.

If you have any other questions, I'll try to answer as soon as I can.

Lehigh has an Integrated Business and Engineering (IBE) program. Its in the Cirriculum guide. I am sure you can find some info on their website
