My daughter was admitted to the business school and is considering attending in the Fall. Can anybody comment on the program, strengths/weaknesses, profs, students, reputation and job placement prospects?
Find their placement report. Most good B schools have one online.
thought this might interest you.
My impression is that UMass in general and UMass Isenberg in particular has gotten more competitive in admissions the past five years and the stronger student body credentials has contributed to its rise in the USNWR and Bloomberg national ratings.

Can anyone please tell me what does “bump” mean? And why would someone respond with a bump?. I still have not been able to figure out the lingo/meaning of bump on college confidential.
@rgr717 bump re-posts a question that has gotten lost due to inactivity. It brings it back to the top so maybe someone that has not seen it can weigh in.
Well, value wise it’s amongst the best in MA. (Perhaps the best if your short on cash and instate) As a Chinese and Political Science major at UMass, I have only taken a couple of classes that fall under Isenburg’s umbrella. This being said, the school and it’s several business programs are amongst the most selective at UMass. (The average GPA at UMass Amherst in general is 3.8W and a 1220 (M+R) SAT, however the business school is likely higher than that. As far as professors and additional information, I am not that knowledgeable but I have many friends in the program that love it. Lastly, i hope someone else in the program can contribute here, but no guarantee.
Oh, thanks very much!
My son was admitted too. We have yet to visit the campus to know whether or not he’ll even like the school. We’re heading up there in a couple weeks to see if it will be the right fit. From my understand from everyone I speak with the school is wonderful…very excited
Isenberg Open House for Admitted Students April 11th. Might get more of your questions answered.

@confusedmomin Yes, we know about that one. However, he has no idea if he even likes UMass so he wants to see the school first. If he likes the school we’ll go back on April 11th. He is still waiting to hear from a few schools, but this is definitely in the running. The merit $ he received makes it attractive for him as we are OOS.

Thought I’d start this thread up again and see if anyone has anything to contribute on Isenberg for fall 2015! This school deserves greater recognition for it’s opportunities, academics and it’s mission focused administration.
After a long and thoughtful process, my daughter has chosen to attend the Isenberg School of Management and is truly excited about the program. She is also in the Commonwealth Honors College which is another reason for her excitement, but Isenberg certainly stands strong on its own! Value was not part of the consideration for her, but it is a nice benefit.
From what we’ve seen from among others schools on her short list, these two programs together offer the best possible experience AND “unentitled” student body. We have found the deans, faculty and students within Isenberg to be inspiring, involved and determined. My D had other choices, all higher in the rankings, but in the end, Isenberg was just too impressive and welcoming to turn down! Sorry to you other beautiful “elite” schools, but Isenberg’s got a good thing going and won my smart D!
Go UMass Amherst/ISOM!
I’ll echo what Actor123 said. My daughter has just finished her second year at Isenberg (she is also in the Commonwealth Honors College) and she is thriving. When she was deciding among schools two years ago, she had several options at more “elite” schools. However, after visiting UMass and comparing all the schools on several fronts–programs, opportunities, students, school spirit, events on campus, dorms, food, and so on–UMass stood out heads and shoulders above the rest. She happily sent in her deposit and has never looked back.
Her experience so far has been tremendous and has exceeded her (and my) expectations. In addition to her studies, she has gotten involved in many extracurricular activities, one of which is being a tour guide where she gets to share her love and enthusiasm for UMass with other potential students. Some students tend to dismiss UMass outright as not being “elite” enough, but the joke’s on them. UMass really is a hidden jewel that is firing on all cylinders. It stands right up there with the best schools in the state and, oh yeah, it’s a tremendous value.
At the ISOM Open House in April they said the average gpa was now 3.9 and SAT (M and CR) was 1292.
My daughter recently went on a field trip, with a few other of her fellow high school students interested in business, to Ernst and Young in Boston. Almost everyone they talked to had gone to ISOM. They recruit very heavily from UMass.
I am happy to see these posts. My son was choosing betwen ISOM and another school. We chose the other school for Fall 2015, primarily bc we were getting mixed messages. Everything we read was awesome, but when we went the the open house, it seemed like they spent a great deal of time (both faculty and students), defending themselves and trying to distance themselves freom UMASS. I agree that it is a great school and deserves more recognition! Although we will be elsewhere, I will always think of what might have been. Then again, you have to assume that your child ends up where they are meant to be! Good luck to all!
