Can someone please give me feedback on the “what attracts you to The University of Michigan (Ann Arbor)” supplement Essay? Preferably Parents (You rock !), or even better current UMich students (that would be very helpful). No offence to anyone else though.

I got into the University of Michigan through EA this year.
The “Why UMich” Essay should revolve around you and not the school. Don’t tell the school what they already know about themselves (e.g. the campus is nice); instead, focus on explaining why you are a good fit for the university. Also, make sure that the essay is specific for UMich — would the essay still work if you replaced Michigan with any other university? If it does, then you should start over. A good way to avoid this error is to research and use UMich specific qualities in your essay. Simply saying “I want to go to UMich because it will give me the opportunity to pursue my dreams” is not enough because such a statement can be used for any school. Instead, go specific: “I want to go to UMich because I want to research [subject] with Professor [U-M professor] and explore my love for learning in the lively city of Ann Arbor… etc.” This is just an example that I made up on the spot, but even that statement can be elaborated upon.

I got into Mich EA, and I was honestly surprised. I think a lot of it had to do with the essay. I went super indepth with the essay. I focused a lot on research, so I searched up some current labs, talked about them and how they fit into my interest. I also gave examples of labs and why those worked with what I wanted to do as an undergrad. If you’re not into research, there are other ways to get in depth with Michigan. Look up some internship opportunities or career related opportunities that Ann Arbor or Mich has. Look up specific courses in your field, and specifically note them in the essay. These essays aren’t quick to write, as they will take some time, but the more in depth you are, the better the essay will be.
@Abwee67 would talking about the center for entrepreneurship at the college of engineering be a good idea? I have not mentioned anything about industrial engineering courses at Umich though because they dont really stand out to me. What really stands out to me is the center for entrepreneurship.
