I sent Emory drafts of both my CA essay and my short answer. Instead of the final drafts. I submitted on Nov. 1 (well at like 11:03 my time, which is past the deadline in Atlanta... another story fml), but applied RD for Emory Scholars. The essay (my CA) was a strong point of my application, and I think having a not-100% essay will CRIPPLE my chances at the scholarship. I was considering mailing the correct versions of both to the school with an erratum letter apologizing. I was wondering if you guys had any thoughts on the matter...

(Also, just for clarification, my CA essay that was sent isn't terrible, but the revised version has minor changes that do make a big difference. The short essay they have is embarrassing. I was also planning on contacting the admissions department anyways because I was recently named a state scholar for my home state, and my counselor advised me to do so.)

Thanks a lot guys. I'd really appreciate some feedback, this keeps me up at night. Especially when all my ED friends got into their top schools already...

My advice would be to send Emory a letter with your updated info on being named a state scholar, and while you’re at it, mention that you inadvertently submitted drafts rather than final versions of your essays. Enclose the final versions. I might suggest sending it by email as well, with attachments. GCs usually advise students to send in updates if they have something significant to add, so it won’t seem that unusual for you to do this. I wouldn’t overdue the apology part. If Emory is your first choice, you could mention this as one of the motivating factors for sending Emory the update. I don’t think that your situation is that big a deal, and at least you’ll be able to sleep at night.

haha thanks a lot. I heard that hard copies are preferred over emails, because I believe that they have physical files for applicants. If I emailed everything, I would probably send it to my regional representative, who I’ve already contacted about ANOTHER issue I’ve had with an essay (school didn’t send my scholars essay with their recs). So, uhh, at least I will stand out to him
