Hey there everyone,

I am a 19 year old male who graduated high school this past June. During my senior year I was in a Dual Enrollment program which basically ment instead of taking classes that one would take in the 12th grade, I took college courses (three of them at the high school 1st semester, five of them at the community college 2nd semester).

When I graduated I had a cummulative GPA of about a 3.3(failry weak I suppose) and a 1920 SAT score. I earned 26 credits towards college graduation that year, and I am now attending Tidewater Community College with the hopes of transfering into JMU for the Fall 2009 semester. I have a 17 credit hour semester this fall, and plan to do the same for the spring session. By the end of this year I should have close to 60 credits and even though this is my first year out of high school, it is technically my second year of college.

Unfortunately I don't have many EC's. I volunteered in the guidance office every day last year, and this year I'm getting paid by TCC to tutor in English and Social Sciences as well as to do administrative work in the school's Welcome Center.

I have a handfull of acedemic honors(nothing to spectacular) and a rather large list of professors willing to write me recommendations.

I plan to major in English and attain at least a Master's degree. After college I want to teach on the college level.

Does anyone here from JMU, or anyone at all with a fair amount of admissions experience, think I have a good chance of getting in?

Matty, dude.........you have an excellent chance for admission as a cc transfer to JMU. One of my siblings goes to JMU and loves it there. He has several friends who are cc transfers. This is absolutely possible for you, so go for it. That said, I go to William and Mary and have two close friends who transferred in by going to TCC.

Here's the deal. Do well. Do your best. As a transfer student it won't matter that much what you did in high school as you will now have a proven record taking college curriculum. JMU has gotten very competitive during the past several years. I would imagine 5-7 years ago, your STATs would have had you admitted.

Nothing can stop you. I wish you all the best. You will love JMU. You are there, dude.

Peace,
pedsox

Wow, thank you man. That's very encouraging. For the past four years its just been chaos trying to decide on both a school and a field of study, all the while not knowing whether or not I'd even get in. Everything I hear about JMU tells me its my school, so I'm so glad to hear that. I'll keep up the good work for sure now.
