I am particularly interested in the quality of student life at these schools. Are any of them "suitcase" schools or do they have other prominent negative quality of life issues? Of course, comments on academics will be greatly appreciated too!

UMBC is a suitcase school. However, there are still a number of kids who live on campus. Academics, it is a good school, but normally takes second fiddle to its big brother, University of Maryland. However, they do have majors that UMD doesnt' have; thus, you should check them out for the differences.

I'm sure there are some people who leave pitt's campus, but most live on campus. pitt has some very good programs, i know the only program that i've heard as of being weak is music, though their extra curricular music is good. other than that, art, english, nursing, philosophy, political sci, and tons of other stuff is really good

US News says 44% at Univ. of Pittsburg live on campus. Most popular majors are business, English, marketing and social sciences.
Drew has about 88% stay on campus with Political Science, psychology and English being popular majors. My son is visiting on Friday and although i can't go this time (might attend open house in Nov.) I look forward to his thoughts and pictures. Tneir theatre program is very popular on campus too.

TCNJ is a pretty big school for students who leave a LOT on the weekends

AU -- do you mean American? Auburn?

I did a summer camp at Drew and it's very pretty, but it seems small, even smaller than its size. It's completely different from Pitt.

I love Pitt. The campus is a campus, but it's right in the middle of everything. The university has something worked out with Port Authority where you can ride all public transportation for free with a PittID card. Incredibly helpful, since busses and the T go most important places in the city, so you really don't need a card. Oakland's really nice, with a lot of small places to eat (go to Craig Street Coffee f you visit!) and having classes in the nationality rooms of the cathedral is really cool.

We will be going to look at Pittsburgh in a few weeks and are really looking forward to it. I am a little concerned about the size of Drew. My daughter has been talking mostly about mid to large size schools.

Drew is very pretty, but small.
Easy walk to small town Madison and train to NYC.

When you visit Pitt, make sure to see the nationality rooms in the Cathedral of Learning (and better yet, go to the top of the Cathedral to see the campus) and eat at the local restaurants.
