Out of curiosity, Hunt, how is that contrary to your experience? Are there SAT score wars or something?

I’ve just never met anybody who didn’t know their own exact SAT scores, including decades after the fact.

haha (bringing this up for the 12th time)
so no use in retaking a 720 physics even for engineering??

OK, I’ll bite. In 2008, 22% of test takers got between a 750 and 800, and 16% got between a 700 and 740. So your 720 is a fine score, but not exceptional. As a prospective physics major, it certainly wouldn’t hurt to retake, but do it only if you think you can improve your score. Higher Education Professionals | College Board;

I have one!
I got in with an SAT score in the 2100 range and around 3.75-3.8 unweighted. I wasn’t the valedictorian, and I didn’t have a long list of national awards like the kind you sometimes see on these boards. Full disclaimer - I am an URM, but not really in the traditional sense (which I elaborated on in one of my essays).

Personally, I think Yale likes people who, while smart, are also interesting and different. I was flabbergasted that I got in; I didn’t think I had a shot in hell. However, I think I distinguished myself in my application (as corny as this sounds) by being really authentic and true to myself - not just writing what I thought they wanted to read.

This is all my own speculation, of course. I have no idea what goes on in the minds of “the powers that be.” What I do know is that out of everyone who applied to Yale from my school, I was the only one who got in, and I think I had the lowest SAT score out of that whole group.

zqsvrm, what kind of URM are you? Economically underrepresented?

zqsvrm, You’ve got me really curious about your URM status? Is it, like, a multiracial heritage? Adopted? Sexuality?

harvard1009 was only asking for a chancing…

Lol ok look Shempi, I have read Harvard’s previous posts and he seems like a very smart and decent person. However, there was no reason to post a chance link on this forum that was supposed to be about “Yale feel good stories.” Additionally, about 30 other people have posted on his chance thread and all of them say the same thing “dude, you are in at all the ivies.”

southeasttitan, it looks like you posted a few chance threads yourself.

Also, thank you,Rtgrove123, for trying to redirect this thread to its original purpose. You very well articulated what I was thinking.

Any more stories?

Likewise, thank you.

Uh, I guess this is a feel good story for interviews. well for those of you worrying about interviews right now, I was an hour late to my interview because I misread her email. So when I called her as I was at the lobby of her office building my interviewer was kinda ****ed since I was late. And I got in. So don’t stress abou tthe interview too much.

“zqsvrm, You’ve got me really curious about your URM status? Is it, like, a multiracial heritage? Adopted? Sexuality?”

hmm, well maybe I’ll explain it a bit more. I come from a middle class family with a multi-cultural background. I discussed my identity issues in my essay. I think if I had just checkmarked the “race” box it wouldn’t really be taken into consideration, but because I had written about it, had done volunteer work, community service, etc. in that community, it made it seem less of a category to be checked off and more of a part of who I am – which it is.

[@harvardll09]

… i think you’re getting into yale lol

Not that this isn’t interesting, but could we here some more stories in thsi thread rather than threats and pointless arguments… because it doesn’t matter who you can take… this is meant to be an anonymous thread and people are allowed to say what they want, but its suggested to stay on topic. If you would like it, I’d be happy to start a thread called “who’s more physically apt in real life?” because anyone here can just make anything up.

This is not an attack on anyone, just a suggestion that instead of pointless arguments that only diminish the quality of the Yale threads, we should really look to help those getting ready to apply. A lot of those people would love to read some stories about kids like themselves who got in.

yayy for hope for stupidish peopleee! :D

and you know what harvard, i’m a 5’1" 105 pound asian and i would wup yo ass. by crying to the authorities and having them press charges against you. because i’m cute and believable and you’re not. so ha.

Harvard1009, you have to understand that it’s completely unnecessary (and reeeally annoying) to make more than one chances thread within the same forum, especially with stats as good as yours. Frankly, no one can accurately tell you your chances on this forum, so after one thread, you should just focus on using the advice you got and on improving your app from there, and then waiting it out, like the rest of us.

Corteau, yes, I did post several chance threads–about 3, I think? The difference was that they were in different forums at different times, as per changing circumstances–they were not 3 different threads with the exact same contact in the exact same forum.

I would offer more stories to get this back on track, but I don’t have any more than the one I already shared, so I’ll just go away.

Southeasttitan, that occurred to me later, after I realized that he had posted the same chance thread in various inappropriate threads, that that was perhaps why you had said not to indulge him. Thanks for being gracious. :)
