Feel like crap...

Well I didnt get regents invitation at Berkeley and UCLA. I am getting very nervous even about my chances at these two schools. I have a 2270 SAT and a 4.1 UC GPA. Is regents just very random? Should I be worried right now?

Don't worry about it. Based on your stats, you are a very strong applicant.

aaa i didnt get one either... i have a 4.0 UCGPA and a 2160 satI, 800math2c,800chem,750bio... im so nervous now! (and i have unique ECs!) argh.

High SAT, though GPA is lower than average of 4.26.

Actually this year's admissions will be quite interesting. the UC is expected to face a 10% budget cut, while there was an increase in applicants of 10%. There has been talks of accepting fewer students to combat the budget shortfall.

ehh. I agree with you, I didn't get it at Berkeley, where I wanted it more, and I did get it at UCLA, where I didn't really want it as much. I am, however, thankful for what I have. sigh.

1) Regents is very random. Once you are within the GPA/SAT threshold its a crapshoot.

2) If you DON't get it its not at all a big deal; many non-Regents > Regents in pure academics. In fact, for some it may be a good thing if you don't get regents (you might get complacent)

3) If you take the rejection from Regents so seriously then you will end up hurting yourself.

4) Finally, Regents offers little benefits at Berkeley. The money is perhaps the most useful, but there are many other scholarship programs that you would seem eligible for.

if you got invited to regents (not necessarily receive the award) is it a guarantee you've been accepted to Cal?

liquidmetal: some of us need the money, my friend. :)

is the avg 4.26 a UC gpa average?

Ya bro... im feelin ya... I had 4.16 UCGPA, 10 APs, 33 composite ACT, 750/710 satiis, varsity basketball 2 years, academic sport, and a lot of other stuff, along with pretty danm good essays... so don't trip bout it

You can still get excellent financial aid from institutional grants, Alumni scholarships, etc. Don't worry if you didn't get Regents.

Yes an accepted Regents' interview invitation means you got in.

I'm in the same boat as you guys...4.5 UCGPA, 2350 SAT I, 10 AP exams by the end of senior year, 800/780 SAT IIs, a lot of service (and now that I think about it, probably "generic" or "boring") ECs.

I did get the UCLA one, but like Mollie, the Berkeley one mattered a lot more to me :/

Did they send out all of the invitations or are they still doing it?
Kinda disappointed. Got UCLA's but not Cal's. Oh well.

Please read my post carefully:

I said that there are other ways to get money if you had regents level statistics. In addition I think (not sure) that Regents only covers tuition, which at Berkeley is really not that much.

That being said anybody with good stats who assumed that they were going to get Regents and did not pursue other scholarships sort of brought it upon themselves.

At the end of the day, relax. My roommate, a sophomore, has a 3.9 in EECS thus far; somehow he did not get Regents despite having similar stats.

Really, I know students who got into schools like Stanford, Harvard, etc. who didn't get Regents'. They have only so many people they can give the scholarship too -- in fact, some say the program is vastly underfunded, which is why there aren't as many perks as, say, UCLA's, or why the minimum amount is only $1000 (vs. UCI, for example, which gives something like $9,000 minimum).

I also know quite a few who had full rides without the Regents' -- with the Alumni scholarships, with institutional grants, etc. Many students got it at UCLA but not Berkeley (and I have a feeling Berkeley might know which would be getting it at UCLA), but don't worry -- if paying for Berkeley will be a problem, you will get plenty of other scholarships so that you can attend. Berkeley's financial aid is excellent, so it's likely that it'll compete very well with UCLA's award amount.

Some wanted Berkeley's so that they know they're accepted. But if you got it at UCLA, you have a very good shot of at least getting into Berkeley.

If you got neither, again, don't worry. You'll be fine -- don't let this get you down. Keep applying to scholarships. The Alumni scholarships are not due yet.

How do you know if you got it at UCLA? I never got a sign in page or anything like that from UCLA.

UCLA sent out letters to candidates (physically). The perks seem so much better at LA...-_-|||

I guess I didn't get Regents at either Berkeley or UCLA. 4.6GPA but crappy SATs (2180). This is disappointing. I hope I still get in somewhere.
