I visited Binghamton, Syracuse, and Fordham (Fordham being yesterday) in the past three days. Binghamton's pretty much out of the picture and it's between Syracuse and Fordham.

Fordham was beautiful, but the classrooms really turned me off. I felt like even the classrooms in my high school were more advanced. When compared to Syracuse's great classrooms in Whitman and Newhouse (where I'd be for most classes for my major), there was a big gap in the quality of the facilities.

So, I guess my question is for visitors to campus and current students. Do you ever feel like you're back in high school when you're in those rooms?

Be more specific. What is your intended major. Fordham has plans for expansion and major renovations. Go to the website for details.

Second, its about the quality of professors, size of the classes and the overall college experience. Syracuse is a much larger school and much bigger sports scene. Its way upstate as well. So you have to weigh what you want out of the experience with your own factors, objectives and what is important to you.

The “high school” feel people complain about at most colleges usually relates to the fraternity sorority scene and dorm drama and such. For serious academic students, that just doesnt fit into the picture, as they have better things to do than hang out with high school buddies. Its why many kids go out of state to college, to get away from that same crowd they are familiar with K-12.

I’d be a business major at Fordham. I know they have the new CBA that is being built, but I’ve heard a lot of different dates as to when that will be completed.

The campus was beautiful, the only complaint I really had was the look of the classrooms.

The new CBA building is to be completed before the beginning of your junior year. It is a renovation project, not a construction project, so the likelihood of them finishing on time is far greater.
I came from a newly built high school where every classroom was equipped with a smart board, mac-book cart access, and other technological amenities and I haven’t had an issue with Fordham’s classroom facilities. Because the majority of Fordham’s academic buildings are 80+ years old, some of the classrooms may appear to be outdated. However, a majority are equipped with state of the art projection systems and many have smart boards. If a class needs access to technology, Fordham has the facilities for such a class.

Hey Vf, i to had the same concern on my first visit to fordham last month, but i decided to attend the admitted students day on the 15th were i got to seat in one of the business class rooms, and from what i could tell they are far better equipped then some of the regular core classes…so it would seem to me that those “high school” like class rooms that you and I saw are mainly core class and liberal arts stuff…also i was told during my tour that the CBA building would be ready by our sophomore year…they said at most within 18 months from now…so i wouldn’t be to concerned about it…initially i was iffy about Fordham for the same reason but now i am committed and glad about my decision =D
