I suggested the Econ degree, with the thinking that you’d want to stay at U of Iowa, and if you couldn’t do Business there, that would be a good alternative. (Btw, I have a friend who has a BA and MA in Economics, and he has done alright - ended up working for the IRS for many, many years. But he did have a Masters as well…)
But if it must be Business, then yes, maybe transferring would be better. Best of luck, whatever you decide to do!
edited to add: I think mommyrocks has some excellent suggestions that may be worth looking into, if you decide to stay at Iowa.
Thanks a lot for all the input guys. I plan on going to Iowa in the fall and will take the standard admission route to Business. And @mommyrocks thank you for your suggestions, I will definitely keep those backups/alternatives in mind
Do you know where you’re going to be living yet? I’m wondering if you’re in the honors or bizhawks llc that can help with getting better grades. I just finished my freshman year at Iowa, I was a direct admit into Tippie, and to be completely honest if you keep in your mind that you want to do well you’re going to do fine at Iowa. However you have to be really honest with yourself, the prereq courses are not too difficult if you actually apply yourself and take the time to study you’ll be fine. However I have a lot of friends that expected to do well their first year because high school came easy, they’re the ones that you’re usually going to find struggling. So you have to be honest with yourself on how well you do in these areas. Also definitely make use of all the tutoring Iowa offers, there are so many resources available to students. I completely know where you’re coming from, I committed to Iowa because I didn’t get in to my top choice and my 2nd and 3rd choices didn’t give me anything in scholarships, I entered Iowa believing that I hated it and wanted to transfer up until February of this year, I’ve realized what a great school it is and what a great program it is. You’ve made a good choice and welcome to the Hawkeye family
@usnativ I am in the bizhawks llc because i feel like it might help and i was told that the vast majority of pre-business students get in (not sure how true that is). My main concern is the prereqs (especially business calc since I’ve only taken pre-calc in hs) but i won’t have to take econ- scored 5’s on AP Micro and Macro. Thanks for the insight and i actually sent in a petition to Tippie but i won’t hear a decision till August…
