feeling apprehensive about applying RD..

oy.. i'm starting to get really worried. i feel like i'm the only one who's applying regular decision. they're gonna have accepted so many people already by the time they even start looking at the RD candidates x__x. and hopkins IS my first choice. the only reason i didn't apply ED was because of financial reasons.. like if i got in i don't know if my parents would be able to pay for it. we're not poor enough to get a good amount of need based aid but we're not rich enough to spend $31,000+ per year on college with my sister in college as well.

do you think it would help my chances if i attached a little letter that told them how JHU is my first choice and stuff like that? or would they just see that as a cheap ploy for trying to get admitted?

also, here's a list of my stats. what do you guys think my chances are to be admitted RD?:
gpa: unweighted-4.0, weighted-4.95
ap's: 5's in english language and comp, u.s. history, calculus BC (and AB subscore), psychology; 4 in environmental science. this year i'm taking physics, statistics, english lit and comp, and government & politics
class rank: 4/500ish
sat: math-790, verbal-750 (total- 1540)
awards: ap scholar with distinction, n.c. scholar, psat letter of commendation, junior marshall, academic letter and honor roll and other random stuff
extracurrics: co-founder and president of japanese animation and culture club, NHS member, a capella chorus group, beta club, geek club, environmental club, NEED club, sophomore student council representative, ambassadors club, lots of random volunteer work with the above clubs but none done on my own, etc. etc.
work experience: none
sports: none
other: been in many plays and choral things; taken several years of piano, voice, and guitar lessons; red belt in tae kwon do; bilingual (i speak serbo-croatian); experienced in html & webdesign; traveled a lot with my family; etc.
..my recs won't be bad but i'm not the greatest essay writer.

I wouldn't worry too much, your stats are stellar. The truth is you CAN refuse your ED acceptance if it is discovered that your family cannot afford the finacial aid package. But that all depends on if JHU believes your family cannot afford tution.

Less than a 1/7 who are accepted are from ED. There is still plenty of acceptance spots lefts.

Have you had your interview yet? You should mention that you didn't apply ED because you were worried about finicial aid.

i thought it was 1/3...but i could be wrong

1/3-1/2 of the final class is made up of ED students. That does not mean 1/3 of all accepted students, because JHU accepts 3 times as many students as it keeps.

I heard that JHU is very stingy with financial aid, so it was probably smart to wait. I don't think they are "need blind" but I may be wrong. I'm also applying RD, it's one of my top choices, will probably go if I get in.

These statistics are old, but I don't have a US News account to get more recent ones.

<a href="http://education.yahoo.com/college/facts/6943.html%5B/url%5D">http://education.yahoo.com/college/facts/6943.html</a></p>

JHU isn't so stingy on aid. But to be honest around campus they charge you for everything (TV, phone, dorm internet access, parking, etc).

I would guess the important statistic is average indebtness after graduation. It seems lower than average of its peer schools.

Your stats look great - better than mine and I applied RD too. Good luck!

hey i am an international student applying RD too..good luck to eveyone!:-)
