feeling guilty for skipping class

For the past 4 days I have been sick with the flu. I have been pushing through it and going to class anyway but last night was rough and I was awake coughing almost all night. I decided to skip my 8am class because it is a very easy one and we already covered everything for the midterm. That way I could be more awake for biology and lab later which are alot harder. I still feel EXTREMELY guilty though. I didn’t come to college to sleep I came to learn.

how do you want us to help with that though?

All you can do is rest and regroup before you start class again.

Are you taking advantage of the free Jewish soup they offer to sick college kids?

Good luck.

If you are in a small school where professors would notice your absence, I would email your teacher with an apology. They might then ask you to get a note from the school health services to confirm that you are sick.

If it is a large lecture hall, the teacher probably didn’t even notice.

As @yonceonhismouth suggests, sending an email to your professor if the class isn’t lecture-hall sized would be a courtesy and show that you aren’t just blowing it off. Don’t beat yourself up - you made a valiant attempt to drag yourself into all of your other classes during the week. Sometimes even the most diligent students get SUPER sick. If you don’t get enough rest to fight this 'flu, it will just prolong your agony (and you may wind up catching something else, which just starts the cycle again).

I think it is good you feel guilty as that is a force that will help you to continue to go to class.

If itis a small class, inform your professor you have the flu and you will get notes from a classmate. If you have questions about the notes or the reading, go to office hours.

If it is a big class, then get notes from a classmate. If you have questions about the notes or the reading, go to office hours.

You did the right thing by staying home! If you are coughing non-stop, not only would you have been a distraction to your fellow classmates but you might get them sick too! Most professors understand that students are humans and get sick. As already mentioned, get notes from a classmate or talk to the TA/professor during office hours. Being sick is a legitimate reason to miss class! Make sure you’re getting as much rest as you can and are drinking lots of fluids

If it’s a small college and everyone knows you. Please email professor and let them know. If it’s a big university then no one cares. Unless you have classes where you have discussions!

As someone who has to go to school with a compromised immune system, I beg of you: STAY HOME. No one wants your flu. I don’t want it as your instructor and your fellow classmates don’t want it either.

Don’t feel guilty. Feel good about taking care of yourself and protecting others.

Send your instructor an email if it’s a small class. Get notes from a classmate.

I hate to break this to you but humans have been known to get sick.

Yes, you came to college to learn; but you’re also a human being with human needs. Take care of your health first - it’s no use going to class if you’re going to be too sick and exhausted to pay attention. Don’t feel guilty, just get the notes from a classmate and focus on getting better over the weekend.

If you’re THAT sick I think you’re doing not only yourself but everyone else a favor. Over working yourself will only make you sicker and harder to get better. Also you could have gotten someone else sick. I come from a big college and sometimes if I know I would benefit more by staying home and teaching myself, I will. Don’t feel guilty, nothing is worth more than your health! Skipping class isn’t always a wrong decision unless you do it with professors who don’t like absents or skip class just to go to parties.

Wow, having the flu means you put your health first. But you also need to put the health of others first, too. NO ONE wants the flu. Never go to class if you suspect you have flu. Flu kills people. Think about that next time please. Your actions were in fact quite selfish.
