other than that I have no idea…any suggestions would be great!
OK, deep breaths. Lots of this will start to come into focus. You already have an idea of a broad major-- great!
Now, let’s start to talk about what you’re looking for in a school:
since you mention schools in DC, you’'re OK with going away, right?
You didn’t mention finances, but they’ve got to be a part of the conversation. Plan to talk with your parents on this soon. What you don’t want is to fall in love with a school, get in, and then realize that there’s no way your family can afford it.
When you think about college, what sort of picture pops into your head? Brick buildings and rolling hills? A D1 Football team and everyone tailgaiting? Small classes with clusters of kids having academic discussions? Animal House? Access to a large city? A small campus nestled in the middle of nowhere? A suburban campus with access to the mall? Can you paint me some sort of a picture?
hey i applied this year as a history major!! I had a 32 ACT and a 4.31 weighted (9 APs and 4 honors)
im also interested in political science and international relations and might switch my major later
these are the schools i applied to:
Binghamton University (accepted)
Stony Brook (accepted)
Le Moyne (accepted with 25k merit, safety)
Elon (accepted fellows and 6k merit)
Stonehill (accepted 25k merit)
Boston University (waitlisted)
Colgate (reach, rejected)
waiting to hear from:
NYU
Boston College
Villanova
William and Mary
Lafayette
American (top choice)
George Washington
Gettysburg
I do live in NY so that’s why I have Bing and Stony (state schools)
All of these schools have strong history programs and political science or international relations/studies
I applied as a history major as well! I didn’t apply to most of the schools you listed, as I had a 1200 SAT and 3.8 GPA… I’m a California resident; there are some really great schools here with history and poli sci programs. Have you considered the Claremont Colleges? Poli sci is VERY impacted at every Claremont College, but it’s worth a try, especially if you nail the essays. I visited Claremont McKenna and Harvey Mudd and I fell in LOVE. I decided not to apply, but getting in there is a Poli Sci major’s dream. Alumni connections are great and you’ll have abundant resources for your major. They’re considered “the Hidden Ivy Leagues of the West.”
Parent - Good for you that you’re following what you like. Don’t worry about you’re career yet. Find something you love and get great grades. Then you’ll be able to narrow it down starting junior year of college.
Do you use Khan Academy? Raising your SATs 100 points could make your list more robust.
You should also start using the net cost estimators if that sorta thing matters at all
I’d suggest running a match thru some online screeners just for a list of college matches, then look em over.
