Feeling lost... need some guidance please!

Hey everyone, I'm posting this because I've been feeling a little overwhelmed and lost when considering my future. I'm currently a sophomore attending a SUNY college as an accounting and finance major (for now). Right now I'm considering going into either accounting/business or law, I'm not sure yet at all. Besides doing well academically, I have no idea what to do. I know I should be doing other things to better my chances at earning the job I want, but I just don't know what. Can people please help me out and give me some guidance with things I should be doing at this stage in my life!?? Maybe an outline, some life experience stories, anything to help me get my ball rolling. Thanks guys!

I would suggest getting out and visiting some prospective places that you would like to work. Attend accounting/finance club meetings, especially when they bring in employers to do Q & A sessions. You are also getting to the point in your college career that you should start looking at internships (typically the actual internship is during your junior year). If it is accounting that you are interested in, there is a vast difference between public/private/government jobs. Try to get orientated with the different career paths that are available with your degree and see which one you find most entriguing. I know for me, I knew that public accounting was the best route because I enjoy working/consulting with individuals and business owners and building long lasting relationships with clients. I did two internships during college, one in public and one in private and I knew right away that public was the path for me.

If accounting is the way you want to go, I would suggest starting in public so that you get a broad range of experience, but this is entirely up to you.
