Feeling matronly wearing nude hose but what else to do?

@nottelling Does that not rub off on clothes?

Silly me, I never realized that hose were for warmth or comfort - I thought it was part of a professional “uniform,” sort of like a slip under a sheer skirt.

It was a culture shock for me when I first moved to southern Florida and was working in law (which in the midwest at that time generally required conservative clothes). I would often see women in Florida with no coverage on their legs, which I interpreted as not the most professional look. Different strokes, and now I’m fine with it. It is very hot and humid, so to add hose to the the mix, well it does seem like overkill.

On the other hand I think nude hose can cover a multitude of ‘sins’. :stuck_out_tongue:

I used to love to wear black tights when I lived in the midwest.

Nope, it doesn’t rub off on clothes if you use the transluscent setting powder that they recommend.

^^^Getting me some of that!

I wear these:

Californian. No hose are not in style here. And I don’t care.

^^^^
LOL -do you remember when Leggs used to come in those plastic white eggs???

I wear nude hose. I wear flannel nightgowns, too. I do not, however, wear nude hose with my flannel nightgowns. (We do have some standards in the Midwest. . .)

oops i guess i am out of style
darn >>>>>>>>>>>

Me too and I’m way, way, way past competing with what’s “in” for people 30 or 40 years younger. Not even on my radar. I don’t give a fig if they think I’m out of style. If they think I’m matronly, then so be it. As long as I’m comfortable!

Ok…my take away from this article is-- it was out, it’s coming back in but stick with sheer nude… >>>>>>>>>

Oh the article said heavy hose. I see. I remember support hose, they were heavier and tighter, yeah, I can see letting them lie. A very sheer nude hose should be unnoticeable more or less.

I wish I didn’t care like some of you…but I do. So the question still remains, I guess for those of you who care, what do you do?

I did go look at the Donna Karan brand…$20…eek! I will probably go to Nordstrom and see what they look like in person and if any are on sale.

Oh my gosh I had forgotten about this! ;))

I do care to some extent which is why if I felt I really needed hose (super cold out, walking long distance, etc) I would wear the Donna Karan nudes and/or nude fishnet. Which gets me mocked but whatever

My issue with no hose is wearing heels with bare feet. My feet blister so easily it’s too painful. I don’t know why I’d pay what I do for my dress shoes and ruin them with sweaty feet.

conmama - the saleswoman at Nordstrom was very helpful in helping me in selecting the color of the DK Nudes.

True story- I was wearing those at D’s wedding and when I said something about my hose one of the bridesmaids said “you’re wearing hose? I can’t tell”.

Thanks @FallGirl …I’m definitely giving them a try!

I was just thinking about this, because I’m on a roll, wearing skirts and dresses again after years of wearing pants. one poster mentioned the Donna Karan nudes line, and they’re really sheer. They don’t have that dark “suntan hose” look that’s pretty bad. I also wear very sheer black ones…show off those legs, ladies, you’ve got 'em!

Do the DR hold up well? It’s hard to spend that kind of money for them to run after just a few wears.

Conmama, when you find what you like, do check UK Tights. They often have sales, and their prices are quite good. I also like Wolford (but if DK prices scare you, do not look at Wolford!) and Pretty Polly. PP makes some funky patterned and also “ladder-resistant” nude hose.

when did pantyhose get so expensive??? LOL.

Because they’re better quality than the old L’eggs in the egg. I’ve had the DKNY for years - though granted I don’t wear them that often.
