Hey guys, I really wanna go ahead and accept my offer of admission from UT because I think that’s where I’m going but I am waiting to hear back from one more college. It’s unlikely I’ll be accepted at the other college, but if I am I will probably go there. What sort of penalties are there for accepting UT’s offer and then backing out?
When you accept admission there is a $200 deposit, I believe, that if you then decide to decline admission you probably lose.
It is considered wise to accept or decline offer after you get your financial aid information.
If you think you might attend UT Austin, I recommend that you go ahead and accept your offer of admission. The $200 enrollment deposit is refundable until May 1. You can probably find out more details in MyStatus.
UT Austin Orientation registration begins on March 10. You cannot register for Orientation until you’ve accepted your offer of admission and paid the enrollment deposit. You can do all that now, and still cancel by May 1 and receive a refund.
On-campus housing is a little different. You may cancel your submitted housing contract prior to Mooov-In, but the advance payment is refundable only to admitted freshmen who decide not to enroll at the university and visit MyStatus to decline their offer of admission no later than May 1. (Canceling the offer of admission cancels the housing contract.) Students who plan to attend the university are not eligible to receive a refund of the advance payment, even if they decide to live off campus.
