Fell asleep during Science section...

I think the title makes it pretty obvious lol. I was doing fine during the English and Math sections...felt confident about those. And then after our 10 minute break, we started the Reading section and i kind of zoned out but managed to finish. However, when Science came around i just dozed off -__-. And then my proctor said "5 minutes remaining" which woke me up, but seeing as how i had stopped at question 21, for the rest of the circles i filled in C's. yeahhh....

I don't know why, but seeing all the words and graphs and numbers just knocked me out lol. I'm pretty sure it's because i didn't get enough sleep last night (only 4 hours). And this was my first time taking the ACT's, so quite frankly, i didn't care about doing my ultimate best because i just wanted to get a feel of it first. I'm retaking in September. But should i cancel my score? I feel like i did fine/ok in the other sections, i think i even aced Writing (the little nap really helped me out lol)...but Science i know for sure is gonna be in the 20's. Should i cancel or just wait to see how i do? Btw, i used a fee waiver, so i wouldn't mind cancelling the score because i didn't pay for it.

i really wish they gave more breaks though -___-

I would say wait and see since some colleges superscore.

That is why I bring a giant can of monster to testing… I am still jittery 6 hours after the test is over.

^ I bring me a coke. In reality, it is a test of who can stay awake and alert the whole time, you have to feel like you’re never going to get done throughout the test (even if you end up with time to spare) in order to good. I can’t wait until I can say goodbye to the ACT lmao.

Your post made my day.

^lol good to know. but should i cancel or not??

@JalliDalli: I know some superscore, but what about Ivy Leagues? And energy drinks don’t really work for me. Nothing does, actually. Not even coffee… I usually get 4/5 hours on a regular test day for like school or something…but i always forget to take into account that ACT’s/SAT’s are 4 hours long :\ So I guess they were right when they say “get a good night’s sleep” lol smh.

I know for sure Cornell does. I heard Brown does too but I’m not entirely sure. There’s a thread on this site abt superscoring right on top of this ACT forum.

yeah right. how can you “fall asleep” during a section?

You fall asleep due to excessive exhaustion. It’s quite simple, actually.

Don’t cancel. Won’t hurt to see how you did on the other sections, and it’s not as if you have to send your score in anyways.

Edit: Also, for your next test, you can be confident and think, “Well I got a # while being so exhausted I fell asleep, so I can for sure get a # while awake and concentrated.”

Also, I know this isn’t the best way to get a good night’s sleep, but when I know I need to sleep a night, I try to get very little sleep the night before, so I’m extra tired the next night. So for example, I have a test Saturday, so I stay up Thursday night, or maybe wake up really early Friday morning. And just to keep throwing in random tips, maybe exercise the day before the test to wear down your body.

@liv4physicz: how? well, like CentralFC said, it’s really quite simple. For the past week i have been getting about 3 hours of sleep each night trying to study for Finals. I guess you can say i finally broke down on Saturday morning. I just couldn’t handle being tested for 4 straight hours, and since i am not that great with time, it was a race with time for me as well, adding to the pressure and exhaustion. It’s not like i fell asleep during ONE section. I was already feeling extremely weary during the Reading section, thus my “zoning” out. And Science was right after so by then i just got knocked out. I literally couldn’t keep my eyes open. I’m not saying that i was in the REM stage where i started to dream or whatever. But i just couldn’t keep focus and lost consciousness. Have you never fell asleep reading a book?

@bsmith72: lol thanks for the tips. i will try them sometime.

@liv4physicz Umm… like everyone else has pretty much said, lack of energy and overall severe exhaustion. It really doesn’t help that the reading and science sections are back-to-back either.

First of all, you guys got a 10 MINUTE break?? We got one 5 minute lousy break throughout the entire test.
Second, you are hilarious. I hope you get good scores for your other sections…but 10 minutes???

@ngirly - It’s supposed to be 10 minutes. Whoever was running your test either was running behind or just wanted to get it over with.

LOL, so i ended up getting a 29. i don’t know how the heck that happened haha. But it makes me wonder what i could get while i’m actually awake.
