I go to a small private boarding school where there aren’t many other students who enjoy writing. I’m looking to meet some other high-school aged writers to chat with and possibly share work and give feedback.
Are you in a similar boat?
If so, hello!
So… is anyone in a creative writing class that they love? What’s your favorite writing medium? Are you planning to write professionally one day? What colleges are you looking at? Do you have a parental kind of pride for characters you’ve created? Idk, these are just a few suggestions for us to talk about??
I used to be a high school creative writer…now I’m a college creative writer. Does that count?
@bodangles Absolutely!! Hello
Hello! Nice to meet people who love to write!
Have a good day!
No creative writing class here, but I love the writing group I attend!
I tend to put lotsa care into my characters, although I usually focus on prose. They are precious :u
While my college experience likely won’t be focused around writing and literature, I do hope to find a place where interdisciplinary studies are encouraged.
I’m liking the looks of (in no particular order) U Chicago, IU-Bloomington, MIT, and some other stuff
@anthonytheboy Nice to meet you too!
@OMPursuit I feel the same about my characters, aaah. I’m definitely going to college for creative writing. U Chicago is on my list for sure, but I haven’t really considered the other two.
Oh, yup! IU-B is more of a good safety, sort of a regional thing- a big public school with good state prices.
Anybody else looking forward to NaNoWriMo?
Oh my goodness, NaNoWriMo! I did it last year and wrote a novel. I almost forgot about it!! I’m definitely doing it thus year…
Hey, cool! What was it about?
I think I’ve yet to succeed at NaNo >.>;
On another note, what’re y’all reading (if anything)? How’s it influencing your writing, if at all?
I’m in a creative writing class this year, and so far it’s really fun! I thought for the longest time that I wanted to be an author when I grew up–my friend and I even wrote stories together and wanted to publish them as a duo–but now I’m more into psych and enviro. I still love writing tho, and have some story ideas still floating around in my head/in notebooks. I try to write whenever I can, but apps are annoying and I’m focusing more on them right now.
Love LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE Creative Writing!!! I want it to be my major!
I’m not in a creative writing class, but I participate in the writer’s club at my school and I write for the school newsletter. I’d say both are fun and interesting experiences.
The mediums I write best in are short stories, poetry, and scripts.
I’ve considered a writing career, specifically as a screenwriter, but I feel writing jobs are (unfortunately) so hit and miss. So, I plan on getting a different job and writing on the side.
I’m entering quite a few pieces into the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards this year, which I’m quite excited about!
@OMPursuit It was about this cryptozoologist that goes crazy. It’s not very good looking back on it, and I’ve rewritten it since, and I still don’t like it. I use too many saidisms, haha. Right now I’m not reading anything, but I did read Shantaram and loved it. And there’s this book called The Wheel of Darkness that’s kind of cheesy but brilliantly written!!
@thecolourist Hey, that’s cool. I did the same thing as a kid. Definitely keep writing, but pursue what you’re interested in!! What’s your creative writing class like? Mine has only one other student, and there’s not a lot of structure haha. Mostly just writing and then sharing and getting feedback. It’s chill.
@writer80 Same!! So says your username haha. What do you write?
@aesthetes I want to go into screenwriting as well, and I think I’m going to go for it. And good luck with the awards!! Do you use a scriptwriting software? I’m just getting into it and trying to figure stuff out.
Please DM about Scholastic Writing @aesthetes
@orendork That’s cool that you want to go into screenwriting I use google docs and lots of tutorial websites/script examples mainly. However, I did sign up for this free online scriptwriting software called Celtx. It looks pretty cool but I haven’t got much use out of it yet. And thank you for the good vibes about the awards!!
@orendork it’s really cool so far. we do three units–plays, short stories, and poems. Right now we’re in the middle of writing our final play, and our teacher does a lot of really cool activities to help us with characterization and scene structure. It’s a lot of fun, and it’s nice to get a break in the day from all the typical senior year stuff.
@orendork ohh yup, I’m guilty of saidism abuse
It tends to hurt me less in prose, though. Hopefully I can squash it with a bit of
practice!
