Fellowships: a problem many would like to have

Congratulations, nano! That’s fantastic!

Talk to your advisor/professor and see if they have thoughts.

Obviously think about what and where you would be studying and which you would prefer.

Also think of scenarios:

You go for Mitchell, and get it. Would you always wonder about Rhodes?
You go for Rhodes, and don’t get it. Would you have wished you went for Mitchell?

And for the two scenarios above…which one do you feel more strongly?

@bopper - those are exactly the two scenarios that have been fighting in my head most of the week! I have talked to my fellowship advisor about it and am leaning toward the Marshall and Rhodes, but it’s been hugely stressful trying to decide.

@nanotech - go for the Marshall and Rhodes interviews. If you don’t, you will always regret that you didn’t try. Rhodes is a very high prestige scholarship, it will help you tremendously in your future job selection. Worst case, you will go to grad school to Johns Hopkins, MIT or Duke (or one of the other top programs in Biomedical Engineering). At your age I always tried to push myself to the limits. Good luck!

Congratulations and best of luck to nanotechnolgy and aphotec. That is fantastic. You are both amazing!

It makes me very uncomfortable when students in your position put any information out on the internet. Although neither of you has posted identifying information, as you reveal more you really can’t be helping your chances. Please just talk about this with trusted adults IRL who will be discreet. imho

Hey, I just stumbled across this thread. Wow, @nanotechnology - I knew you were smart, but still, this is jaw-droppingly awesome. I didn’t read through the whole thread, but it looks like you’re leaning towards the Rhodes, which I absolutely think is the correct decision. You’ll never know unless you try!

I’ll be rooting for you. Best of luck!

Thanks! I did opt for the Rhodes. My Marshall interview is next week and the Rhodes is the week after. Now the most stressful part is all of the practice interviews and my roommates dragging me shopping for new dress clothes.

@nanotechnology Any updates? I hope your interviews went well!

No luck for me - reserve for the Marshall, nothing for the Rhodes. But I think @Aphotic‌ got it! (If I’m correctly matching username to person).

I take that back - I got an email today that I’m off the reserve list for the Marshall and have been offered the scholarship!!

Congratulations, nanotechnology!!! That’s great news!

Yeah!!!

Congrats! D’s high school friend got both (she’s awesome), and is going with the Rhodes, so that opened up at least one Marshall.

WOO HOOOOO!

Congrats–have a great year.

Congratulations!

@nanotechnology - YAY!! That’s awesome news. Congratulations, and good luck wherever you decide to go!

Happy news! Congratulations.
