in the uni thing they talk about equality, etc. Does being a female asian actually harm u in the admission process? Anyway from australia here, where all they look at is yur exam mark (AP equivalent i guess) to get into uni. and everyones asian.

are you hot?

You mean you don't think it's fair that they discriminate based upon your gender and race?

Welcome. Enjoy America.

colleges want to seek a class of diverse people from a lot of backgrounds. a lot of qualified asians (both male & female) apply to the top colleges, like penn for example. but since there is an unspoken quota to the number of asians (obviously penn can't have 80% asian population), penn will turn down qualified asians. so in general, you are competing with both all the applicants and your own race.

lol the unis here have 80% asian population

should i not tick anything for the ethnicity box then?

if only you were a Martian--anywhere in the world...

Should you not disclose your race? They will figure it out anyway, if not from your name then from your activities.

In a perfect world, colleges would not take race and gender into account in any way, only "the content of your character", as MLK said. In many countries, admission to college is based on test scores, period. The US is not one of those countries. There is a desire to have "diversity" in enrollment, which basically means that each racial minority is represented on campus by roughly its percentage of the general population, especially "underrepresented" minorities such as blacks and hispanics. Unfortunately, there is an oversupply of qualified Asian applicants relative to say blacks and hispanics (not to mention whites) so that it is much more difficult for an Asian to get in than say a Latino. This is the unfortunate reality.

The nicer way of looking at this (other than just saying it is racism, which it is) is that filling a class at an Ivy university is like casting a play - they are looking for a certain number of athletes, a certain # of musicians, a certain # of blacks, a certain # of children of alumni, etc., etc. So there are only so many Asian bookish types that they have slots for in this "cast".

There is much more to an applicant than test scores.
Yes, being an asian female hurts.
Asians are the news Jews in the world of college admissions.... ORMs.

back to mengcheng's question...are you hot?

vindicated

upenn could always use more hot asian girls.

Well if you were applying to engineering I guess it could give you a slight engineering because there are less women in the engineering field.

Meng,

Penn does not need any more Asian girls. Please just look outside.

operative word: hot

lololololol
