Female student attire at football games?

Hi, my daughter was admitted for Fall 2018. We plan to visit the campus on Admitted students day in April. However, we just attended an Admitted Students regional event in our town on Sunday. During the powerpoint presentation, the admissions rep. informed us that the girls need to start buying their garnet and black dresses to wear with pearls to the football games. It’s tradition, she said. I think they may have lost my daughter as an incoming student at that point. lol Is this really true?

Not for my D! Now she did eventually get t-shirts and even a garnet sweater, but there will be girls dressed in full on garnet/black dresses, etc but there will also be girls in shorts and tees (it can be really hot at the games) and every thing in between! At some games the school asks all students to wear black or garnet or white as a spirit thing. Fun to dress in school colors, but dressed up? Not my D. And not that she didn’t have school spirit - she helped paint some of the guys who like to paint up for games. Your D is more likely to find girls dressing up if she is in sorority.

It was a little funny. When she started she really didn’t care about games. After freshman year she was all in.

And don’t forget the cowboy boots to wear with the black dress.

I have several photos of my D (started there in Fall 2015 from PA) with friends in black sundresses at the football games. None of the girls are wearing pearls or (as best I can see) heels. A couple of the girls are wearing cowboy boots; my kid generally wears flip-flops or sandals. These aren’t dressy dresses, but they look like they’d be cool on a hot day. Later in the season, they switch to Carolina sweatshirts or black or garnet sweaters and jeans.

My D is not in a sorority, but a few of her friends are. In the photos, they all look pretty much the same to me. The games are a big social event, as is the tailgating before. The impression I get is that they take the time to look put together (pretty hair, earrings–not pearls!!-- and most have on at least a little makeup)–nicer than they’d look for class, but not truly dressed up.

I do recall my D saying that fewer girls seemed to be wearing sundresses for the early season games. Not sure it that’s a trend, backlash, etc.

At a lot of schools in the SEC, maybe all of them, the sorority girls dress up for games, and the guys in fraternities where blazers and khakis. I went to Auburn(27 years ago!), but it still seems to be the same. The kids not in a fraternity or sorority generally do not dress up. School colors? Yes. Fancy outfit? No.

@hbh2017 Yes, she mentioned the cowboy boots with the dresses. We are not in Connecticut anymore! lol

LOL. I saw a lot of black dresses and garnet dresses, but not dressy, and no pearls. Maybe they change for the pre game/after game sorority parties. At the games it was sundresses and the guys wore black or garnet polos. It was also 94 degrees.

My DD is in a sorority and graduating this year. She found that some girls wore casual dresses in the garnet and/or black to the games with cowboy boots. She did to some games, but usually wore shorts & a tee shirt or jeans & a sweatshirt. Never did she wear any pearls nor did any of her friends either in or not in a sorority. To funny!

Agree with all of the above , d graduated from USC last May and never missed a football game. Seems like freshman year she and her friends worse a lot of black or garnet casual sundresses ( nothing overly dressy). They did have hair and makeup looking nice , never wore pearls although sometimes had other black or garnet earrings etc on and cowboy boots for sure . I noticed as time went on especially junior and senior year d and her friends started to wear their usc jerseys ( on cooler days ) , or casual tops , tanks etc ( on hot days ) with shorts more than they wore dresses . D was not in a sorority, however many of her friends were . I feel like the dresses are definitely more of a thing freshman year, then they all relax a little bit as time goes on .

Oops. Wore. Not worse

Welcome to the South and the SEC!

If you Google for students and football and University of South Carolina, you will find pictures of girls (and guys) in a wide range of clothes. Some are even wearing pearls (though most that I saw are not). You can search for other SEC schools as well and see the same thing.

Gag.

It just means more . . .
