Fenn college of engineering.need some help please.

hi all
so I have decided to apply to Fenn college of engineering to major in EE,I have searched a lot for reviews on this college but I couldn't find anything useful.
any 1 here is going there?
what can you say about this college??
it's ABET accredited school BTW.

here's the university's website:
Electrical Engineering Major - Cleveland State University

I would appreciate it if some 1 can review it and tell what he thinks about it.

best;

any reply guys!!

I don’t understand you. On the one hand, you repeatedly make posts in a variety of threads decrying the value of rankings and stating unequivocally that you should be able to go to any ABET-accredited program and have the same education as any other.

On the other hand, you come and make a thread like this worrying about the rankings of the program you plan to attend. Similarly, you make threads asking how to take advantage of another college’s lectures online if your own college “is not as good” as the other.

According to your oft-cited position in these first types of posts, should the issues in your second types of posts really matter? I simply can’t figure out where you stand.

As for the engineering program at Cleveland State, you aren’t getting any response here because it would appear that quite literally no one here has any experience with their program other than you. Until you came here, I couldn’t have even told you that they had an engineering program. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing; it just means that the department is either very small or very new and not very well-known.

If you really want to know if the program is any good for you, call up the admissions office and ask about what companies typically hire their engineers and whether their engineers typically are able to get into good graduate schools. If the answers are to your liking, then the school is good for you.

And no one has ever heard of Fenn College of Engineering. Change header to Cleveland State if you want replies.

In case you wonder what kind of companies show up at the career fairs there, a quick Google search led me here:
[CSU Career Fair Central](http://www.csucareerfair.com/company_list.php)

@boneh3ad:
thanks a lot Bro.

It is ABET-accredited, so all bias aside, you should be fine going there.

That being said, I would say it’s a 4th tier school overall, which is right there at the bottom. I normally advise people not to get overly wound up over college rankings and prestige, however, you should try and avoid the schools at the very bottom as these places often have many problems. Lastly, the list of companies attending their career fair is pretty mediocre. None of those companies stand out as being noteworthy to me, except for maybe DuPont.

Quite frankly, it sounds like an incredibly depressing school to attend. No offense to anyone who went there.

Just some brief stats on CSU (not to be confused with California State University):

ACT Composite: 18/24
ACT Math: 17/24

Most Popular Majors:
Accounting, Business Administration, Communication, English, Finance, Health Science, Marketing, Nursing, Psychology, Social Work, Urban Studies

Transfer, Retention and Graduation Rates:
First Year Student Retention (full-time students): 66%
Transfer Out Rate: 41%
4-Year Graduation Rate: 9%
6-Year Graduation Rate: 30%

Data Source:
National Center for Educational Statistics

Two things I noticed right away:

Horrid graduation rates. I don’t think I’ve seen a school with anything lower… and

Engineering is not a popular major there (this can affect which classes are offered to you, as well as a multitude of other things)

my main plan is to go to CSU for the fteshman year and then move to Case Western Reserve, they both have the same curriculum for the first year.
I think Fenn college of engineering was an independent institution and then became a part of CSU.

thanks a lot for replying.

Case Wstern Reserve Univ (CWRU) is easy to get in. This is the info for you:

When applying to Case Western Reserve University, it’s important to note the application deadline is January 15, and the early action deadline is November 1. Scores for either the ACT or SAT test are due January 15. It is more selective, with an acceptance rate of 51.3 percent and an early acceptance rate of 72.4 percent.

So, why dont you apply to CWRU as soon as possible since there is still time. However, CWRU is very expensive and does not give much Financial Aid, Merit aid, scholarship, etc.

CWRU is not “easy” to get into, unless you are comparing it to MIT and Stanford. The acceptance rate seems high because the applicant pool is self-selecting, and the school doesn’t have the national recognition it probably should. Acceptance rate at the STEM-oriented schools are often misleading that way…

Here are the test scores from their latest Common Data Set -
25th Percentile 75th Percentile
SAT Critical Reading 600 720
SAT Math 660 760
SAT Writing 600 700

ACT Composite 29 33
ACT Math 28 34
ACT English 28 34

74% are in the top 10% of their graduating class.
94% are in the top 25% of their graduating class.

<a href=“Institutional Research | Case Western Reserve University”>Institutional Research | Case Western Reserve University;

I am sorry but for me and some of my friends, we have been accepted with no sweat at all. And compared to my school with acceptance rate of 25%, CWRU is easier to get in. Also, I am doing 3 plus 2 dual degree with Vandy and Johns Hopkins. And I have beeen accepted at both schools. Those schools are tougher to get in than CWRU. Just my two cents…so, go ahead apply at CWRU and you will be accepted with 50% acceptance rate.

I am not applying to CWRU not because of acceptance rate or how hard it is to get in but, because of their high tuition 40k annually  I feel like Mit is cheaper if you applied for financial aid.

OP: you seem to contradict yourself as follows:

my main plan is to go to CSU for the fteshman year and then move to Case Western Reserve, they both have the same curriculum for the first year.

I am not applying to CWRU not because of acceptance rate or how hard it is to get in but, because of their high tuition 40k annually.

IF CWRU is so expensive why bother to transfer to this school? do you think that transfer students will pay less?

I already informed you that CWRU does not give much Financial Aid and yes this is private school like Johns Hopkins, Vandy, Tulane, etc. Although I have been accepted at those three, I decided to go to Tulane where they give lots of Fin. Aid/scholarship, etc.

If you think MIT is cheaper then why dont you apply at MIT. Personally, I have a shot of going to that school and Cal-Tech but I have no interest what so ever. I am not after top school, ivy league at all.

I’ve never heard of this particular college before.

If you are looking for an engineering school with relatively low costs, I suggest SUNY Buffalo. The SUNY schools have relatively low out-of-state tuition. SUNY Buffalo is a solid engineering school which is not particularly selective for admissions.

not really my friend, but I had many questions going around in my head.
now I think my choices are clearer than before ,thanks for CC help and yours.:)

well ,CSU ranking is just the same of Wright State University so I think it is not that bad eventually.
it isn’t expensive for out-of-state either "13-15 k " annually.

thanks every 1 for participating in this thread and thanks for the help.
I will go to CSU and see what happens ,:)

Jan2013:
what can you say about Wright State University ??
its ranking is 129 in US News.

best regards ;

For what it’s worth, I’ve also never heard of Wright State.

I think most people know the popular Universities like Stanford, mit,GT,UC…
I as an international student knew all these top school in the US.
it’s normal for you and every body else not to know every school in the US ,by the fact there are more than 2000 University in the US!!
but I think the school is good enough because it has been on the US news list.

OP: I dont know any TOP, Ivy League schools in these respective countries Aussie, England, Germany, Sweden, Holland, France, China, Japan, etc. There are lots of them that I dont know and never have heard of. But, of course they are very good schools. The thing is not any schools that I have never heard is bad school, etc. Moreover, I also dont know all the schools in the US. But, that dont mean they are bad, etc.

Just go ahead go that school, maintain high GPA then after try to go to brand-name school for grad school. Nothing is impossible.

that’s what I am going to do friend.
thanks a lot,I appreciate your replies.
