Fermilab TARGET Internship

Just wondering if you have any comments about this internship?
Also do you think this will help a student get into a better college . . .(Northwestern)

Are you doing it?? I AM and I’m super excited! I don’t know if it helps you get into college as much as shows an area of interest that you pursued. but on the other hand, being chosen for something so selective (15 chosen out of over 200) probably looks good!

i’m thinking about applying right now!

I was in the program last year. I say that it is amazing and will defiantly put you on the map when applying to colleges. I was accepted to some colleges just by saying I was in the program also I was able to receive many science scholarships for being in the program last year.

Gisrael would you mind sharing your stats/tips for getting admitted?

In all honesty I was admitted according to Mrs. Charles because I had shown a great deal of integrity. The aim of the program is for minority students like myself to have a chance to become apart of a community of scientist and to gain connections( at least thats what I believe the aim was) , but there was two peers that was European among the 15 so it is very likely for anyone to get accepted and not just based on race.

Well I don’t want to spoil the surprise of the application experience. But I will tell you a few qualities that I had and the other 14 had that may have been the decider for our selection.

I was able to show that I really care for the sciences also I was able to prove it by explaining that I started reading books of Hawkings, Greene, ect at the age of 13.
many of my peers were very well equip academic wise, ex. high GPA and ACT, one of my peers had a ACT of a 33 and another with a GPA of a 5.8 on a 6.0 scale.
So in all honesty when the interview come do your best to just be you, dont make yourself seem any more of who you are or any less of who you are. Also its good to follow up on Mrs. Charles or anyone else that may had interviewed you. Just have a nice conversation and just explain more to her of why you would benefit from this program.

i.e. Me and Mrs. Charles talked on the phone a few days after my interview( not saying that got me in but it did help my application). so just taking that extra mile to reach out to her will increase your chances by a lot. Especially in one of the most prestigious science programs in the country for high school students.

what did you call her regarding?
