This is my new “for fun” $$ savings app. It’s a consumer loyalty app. You scan receipts from anywhere you shop - grocery store, restaurants (local or otherwise), gas, drugstore - you name it. You get points for purchases which can accumulate and turn into gift cards of your choice.
They also have a daily rewards feature to spin for extra points. Who doesn’t like to spin a wheel and win a “prize”???
I’m still learning but you have to upload receipts (you can scan your receipt pic so there is no personal info, products only) within 14 days. I think you are limited to how many you can upload at a time. You can only “spin” once a day - there is a 24 hour countdown for that!
You can upload electronic receipts as well. You can earn extra points by referring friends. I referred by husband and so he got starter points and I got extra points.
I know people who have participated and easily redeemed gift cards. This app is apparently known to be competitive with Ibotta (?) but quicker and easier to use. Literally takes 10 seconds to scan a receipt and then get your points.
This article explains it well and suggestions:
If you do something like Rakuten or Retail Me Not this is another way to earn some $ for purchases.
Share if you participate and how it has worked for you - as I said, I’m a newbie.
Data mining at its best! I would read their privacy policy closely to see how the data you are happily supplying is being used, where it goes. Just a simple Google says Fetch is not gathering your personal information or selling it, but it is being shared, ostensibly to help retailers improve their products and services. Make sure you are OK with that, understanding that what the company says and what it actually does or the unintended consequences (if any) of this sharing may or may not be totally benign.
Anonymous (privacy-protected) sharing is the best way to build very large databases of consumer information (or any other information).
Make sure you can sign up for the app providing nothing more than an e-mail address (and do not use your primary address). Also, know that Fetch e-receipts operate a bit differently than scanned receipts. For e-receipts, you must agree to link your Amazon or email account with Fetch. Here’s the fine print:
In processing your Digital Receipts, Fetch may retrieve Personal Information such as billing address, mailing address, name, payment method, and other information contained in the Digital Receipt email. The account credentials that you enter for these accounts are not stored with Fetch, but are stored on your device through appropriate secure methods, such as Keychain.
I retired as a data analyst from the world’s largest data mining enabler. I am not paranoid, just extremely careful.
I will try it - thanks! I am a loyal Rakuten user, and I’ve made pretty good money from using it (extra savings are always appreciated). This app sounds easy. I’ll let you know what I think.
Sure - they are seeing where you shop, what you buy. As I said I scan without any identifying info to me and it works fine. I’m not handing out my SS # freely (LOL) but I am not someone who gets too shook up about my habits being shared.
Such a dumb thing but I got H to sign up too - we are having such a competition each day to see who has more points or who gets more rewards on the daily spin!
I was also able to add in my Amazon purchases which will help - not a ton of points for these - 25 for each order (not each individual item) but I order often so it adds up.
