Hey,

I am applying to Tufts ED since it is my first choice. I know that certain schools allow students to apply to their school ED AND also to other schools through EA. Is Tufts one of those schools who lets students do this or can i only apply ED to Tufts.

Also, does Tufts like it if students visit or when students show interest and can this impact admissions?

What is the Tufts ED acceptance rate approximately?

I am an international who does not need any financial aid. Would i be at an advantage/disadvantage when it comes to admissions?

Thanks!

Every Early Decision program I know of is single choice, meaning you can only apply Early to that school. I’m assuming Tufts is one of these.

Almost all schools keep track of whether you have visited or contacted the admissions office before. This is an easy way to demonstrate your interest in the school.

For the class of 2008, Tufts overall admission rate was 28% and Early Decision rate was 35%.

I just finished reading “The Early Admissions Game”, a statistic based research book about the benefits and drawbacks of Early Admissions. Basically, ED and EA are a huge boost to your chances. Unless you are a minority, recruited athlete, or legacy student, applying ED or EA is a good way to make your application stand out from the rest of the pool.

That being said, there is little benefit in applying ED to a school if you are extremely qualified or extremely unqualified, as your admissions decision will likely be the same. Early Admissions programs most benefit those who are just below the averages for a particular school and need something else to boost their application.

Definitely visit the school first, though. There is absolutely no sense in applying ED to a school you haven’t seen yet. Choose wisely!

Georgetown is the only school I know of with a restriction similar to what you stated. They require that if you apply EA, you not apply ED anywhere.

I honestly can’t see any reason why an ED programme would mandate you not apply anywhere EA, since ED is binding. If you get in ED, your EA applications will simply be moot.

If you apply to Yale EA, you cannot ED elsewhere.

EA acceptances do not become moot; the successful ED applicant must turn them down, as well as withdraw any other open apps.

Wait, i’m still a bit confused. Can i or can i not apply to other schools EA if i apply Tufts ED.

Also, do you guys know what is a good predicted IB grade to be competitive for admissions.

Caitlinjon is wrong, you can only apply ED to one school, but can apply EA to as many as you want unless one of them is SC-EA, like Georgetown or Yale (or I think Stanford).

georgetown only limits ED applications in their EA programme

I highly doubt this is true. They might attach a questionnaire to the application asking if you’ve ever visited, but that’s used to help the school better sell themselves in the future, and has nothing to do with your current application.
