hey, i got accepted this week.
Im transferring from Penn State and i have a few questions before i decide if this is the school for me.
OOS from Jersey, so i cant visit until orientation.
Would it be impossible for me to get on campus housing at this point in time?
If not, then is it hard to find some sort of nice housing that isnt far from campus since i wont have a car?
Im interested in majoring in Finance, is this major study abroad friendly?
What kind of minors go well with this major?

And kind of stupid questions, but..
are there a lot of palm trees on campus?
how far away is Tallahassee from the beach?
do students take trip to the beach often, or is this very rare?
Thanks

Getting a dorm for you will be tough, because priority numbers are ranging in atleast the high 6000s. There’s a lot of housing that’s very close to campus, but one major benefit that I’m extremely pleased with is the bus system. There are four different bus routes going at any given time during business hours, in addition to the city bus system. Both are free for FSU students, so you’ll be able to get around with relative ease.

I’m planning to dual-major in Accounting and Finance. From what I’ve heard from both my professors from dual-enrollment, relatives, and business professionals, they are good to study together. Having knowledge of both is a large advantage in the business world (or so I’ve heard from a few local corporate employees). My father is the President and CFO of his business, and he’s extremely supportive of schooling in Accounting and Finance simultaneously.

Tally isn’t too far from the beach, but the Gulf water is very cold. I’ve only been to FSU for a tour over this past summer, but I loved everything about the campus. They have a place called “the Rez.” From what I understand, it’s a semi-private lake owned by FSU. I haven’t a whole lot about it, but it definitely seems like something to check out.

The campus is enjoyable. There’s lots of trees and it’s kept very clean. The campus has a definite edge over UCF, FGCU, and USF. I’ve heard that the UF campus isn’t very student-friendly on many counts, so I think FSU probably has one of the best, if not the best campus in the state.

North Florida does not have many palm trees. FSU is a gorgeous campus but think south Georgia rather than south Florida. You can get to the Gulf at St George Island in about 90 minutes. It is a nice beach but remote and not a lot going on. Not the ocean but almost. Panama City Beach is about 2 1/2 hours and typical beach with lots going on. The beach is not really a draw for FSU. But students do hit the beach for a weekend here or there. There is Spring Weekend each spring and lots of FSU students go. The Atlantic Ocean at Jacksonville Beach is about 3 hours.

If you really want housing, sign up ASAP and give a deposit. You may not hear until last minute but there is a GOOD chance you can get a room. And there are plenty of student apartment complexes that DO NOT FILL and often offer specials by summer for those who do not yet have housing. They will make you think you have to sign up NOW but that is not true. And the closer to the start of school, sometimes the better the deal because they want to fill rooms. The newest, fanciest complexes are not as close, but some of the older ones have been refurbished, so you really can be in walking distance if you want. And the FSU bus system is good.

The Rez (Reservation) is a complex of buildings and activities on the shore of Lake Bradford. It is owned by FSU and offers swimming, canoeing, kayaking, beach volleyball, etc. It is free to FSU students. It is on a large lake only 4 miles from the campus.
