Few questions on going undeclared for a CSU

I'm interested in Business, and possibly Engineering but I know these are pretty impacted majors, I'm starting to doubt selecting those on the app because my current high school stats don't look so good (2.8 weight GPA, 1650 SAT, thought I did retake it earlier this month and I'm taking ACT in addition in December).

Pretty much my only choices so far is to make it into one of these csu's or go to a CC, which my parents and peers really discourage me from doing.

I'm applying for Long Beach, Fullerton, Cal Poly Pomona and San Diego State as my top schools but I'm not sure as to whether I should apply 'undeclared', pick a major I want or pick something else that I plan on switching out of.

-And let's say I pick an impacted major as my first choice on the app but I don't make it in for that specific major, can I apply undeclared as my alternate major on the app and still make it into the school?

-And if I do get in as undeclared or for a major I don't really want, what are the drawbacks and how easy is it to switch to another major?

I’m sorry to tell you but I’m pretty sure that you’ll need a much higher GPA for those mentioned schools.

Those are the top schools in the CSU system (you’re only missing SLO).

When you look at the GPAs for those schools, 3.3+ is about the lowest they’re going to accept.

You need to either apply to some CSUs that will take your stats, or go to a CC. Since your parents don’t want you to go to a CC, I’m guessing that means that they’re willing to pay for a Cal State. So, if that’s true, apply to another (like CSU Monterrey) and then transfer once you get your grades up.

You can “try” at one or two of the above, but I really doubt you’ll be accepted.

Which other CSUs will you consider?

Where do you live? That would have an effect on whether you will be accepted to Long Beach and Fullerton. If you are in their designated admit areas, you should be admitted, unless there’s a huge change in policy before admissions are made - which is a possibility. San Diego State is a huge reach for you, even if you live in their admit area - they have changed their policy already. What about Chico, Northridge, or San Francisco?

^^^

Even if this kid lived in Fullerton or in Long Beach areas, he still would not likely get accepted to those schools. Look at the princeton review profiles for accepted students at those schools.
