the short answer essays and honors essays instruction say - recommended word limit is 200- 300 words.
My daughter says her essays are around 350 words and the common app seems to allow up to 700 words.
if the word count is more than 300 words, will you receive a truncated essay?
Is this okay to answer in more than recommended word limit?
@hailtopitt1787 my son asked for sat scores to be sent this afternoon ; this is the last part of his application . When should he expect to have a decision ? Thanks .
@Senior_1999, This is a high-volume time for us, so I would estimate 4-6 weeks once we have his completed application and all of the supporting materials. Best of luck to him!
Just found out today that D’s school treats rolling admissions deadline as October 15th for teachers and counselors to add recommendations. So the school has told all teachers and counselors to treat early decision applications as a priority to provide recommendations.
D wants to apply to Pitt by mid September (already sent SAT scores couple of weeks back).
But looks like teachers and counselor will not upload the recommendations till October 15th.
Please advice how to go about with the application in this situation?
Edit: Requesting for one more help:
if you do not mind, can you please let me know the address to which the official transcripts should be mailed to by the school.
students are required to fill the transcript request form with the address.
@learning19, We don’t ask applicants to send letters of recommendation. While we appreciate your teachers, counselors, and other mentors taking the time to write recommendation letters on your behalf, we find letters are beneficial in very limited circumstances (for example: providing context for variance in your overall academic performance). We recommend that you submit responses to the Short Answer Questions and use that space to explain or clarify what most recommenders would cover in a letter.
We also recommend that students complete the Self-Reported Academic Record in lieu of sending a transcript (just because it speeds up processing and review time, not because we treat the application any different in review). If you would like to send us a transcript rather than completing the SRAR, please send it to:
Office of Admissions and Financial Aid
University of Pittsburgh

Can anyone confirm that when you receive the accept or decline button on the online app that it means you are accepted??? After i clicked accept it asked how I would like to pay for tuition deposit. Any information would be great, thank you!
@learning19 , Is your son or daughter really interested in Pitt? It sounds like you are doing all of the leg work and research. The best advice someone gave me was to teach my kid how to self help a little (e.g., Google it)

@alamohanna, We tell students to wait for official confirmation (email or letter) from our office rather than relying on the portal. Good luck! You should hear from us very soon.
D’s teacher and counselor submitted their recommendation in common app.
The counselor recommendation got automatically added to the UPitt.
there is a button to add or invite more recommenders.
when that is clicked, it allows to invite a new teacher for recommendation and shows a list of teachers that have already completed their recommendation and it is in submit status.
But there is no option to select that teacher to add to UPitt.
Does Pitt not accept teacher recommendations?
some additional info: We tried similar steps to a different university and it allows to add the teacher recommendations that are submitted by teachers.
@learning19, If you are having technical issues with the Common Application, I would recommend contacting the application’s help team directly.

@learning19 If your D is really interested in Pitt and maybe engineering, I would have her apply asap, to have everything received by the Nov 1 honors priority deadline.
In the past you could be Honors College eligible and decide not to live in Honors LLC. The student had to apply for Honors LLC as part of their housing application. I have heard that living in honors might become mandatory for honors students, but not sure if that is true.
My D liked living in honors. Upper campus was a bit more quiet, and she liked the suite style room.
It is easier to switch out of engineering than switch into it. So your D could start out in engineering and see how she likes it.
Unless she is leaning more toward computer science than engineering.
It might also be easier in Arts and Sciences to keep a 3.0 GPA for a scholarship.
@mommdc , D is leaning towards computer science. submitted the application.
initially she was not sure if she wanted go for computer science or engineering.
later she made a confirm decision about CS.
her GPA is 4.4 and SAT 1570.
not retaking SAT.
