For housing, can you pick a specific dorm, or just a certain "section" of campus?

When do we rush fraternities / sororities?

Do you have to live at your frat house for any period of time during your 4 years at Miami?

Is the stereotype that 'unless you wear brand name clothes you wont fit in' true? Because I'm popular at my high school. And even though I'm a nerd deep down, I love to drink and party and stuff, but I just don't really care about what brand my clothes are, I'd rather buy a $10 Hanes shirt than a $80 Ralph Lauren shirt and save my money for more important things...

Any tips for incoming freshman?

And my 2 biggest questions that I have not found the answer for...
- Where do a lot of students at Miami come from? (State / Area / City wise)
- Where do many students at Miami end up after they graduate? (For example, I know most students at Indiana are from Chicago & end up in Chicago)

Current parent and alum with a few answers (and opinions):

1. You select housing through the LLCs you preference… this doesn’t pref a certain dorm or quad except that Honors housing has been in Tappan and Emerson for a number of years now.

2. Rush is Spring semester… i.e. “deferred”

3. Most frats (IFC houses) have houses in which you are required to live… typically for sophomore year.

4. That’s basically a bogus stereotype… the party scene is robust but doesn’t detract from academics. In my view, it’s available to you if you’re into that but there are plenty of students who aren’t into the party thing and they enjoy Miami just fine.

5. Go to class… and study… that’s why you’re there…

6. Miami is 60% in-state student predominantly from the 3 Cs… Cinci, Columbus and Cleveland areas

Out-of-state frosh are from the Midwest predominantly led by Chicagoland
There is a reasonable contingent from the East… NY, NJ and DC Metro
Miami and IU student bodies are similar demographics (I live in IN)
As for post graduation, the best way to assess job placement is to search for the companies that recruit on campus… Chicago placements are common; as are the major OH cities, Indy, STL, Nashville, ATL, Big D and major metros in the East.
Many students also go to grad school so, of course, that could be anywhere.
Good luck in your college search. Miami has been a great launching pad for myself and 3 of my out-of-state kiddos.

Rumor from frosh daughter that beautiful new dorm adjacent to “MET” quad… Etheridge Hall will be freshman Honors dorm next year… for whatever the rumor mill is worth
