few transfer questions

In the (very helpful) transfer results threads, no one is placing their major. Why is that? They post their GPA, but without posting their major we have no context, right? A 3.5 applying to Engineering is much different than a 3.5 applying to Gender Studies. Or am I reading them wrong?

Also, why are the Junior transfers posting their High School SAT scores and GPA? Am I mistaken, or isn't HS scores irrelevant if transferring as a Junior? I ask because I'll be applying to schools as a Junior from a CC, with a 3.9 and I dont have any HS info to give them, it was 20 years ago and I ended up with a GED. I was always told, once I apply as a Junior, they care about CC work, not High School work. Thanks for your help guys. :)

Lastly, I'm going to fill out the Common Application, is that going to cover most of the schools, or do I need to fill out various aps for various schools? Sorry, I'm new to this, only been focused on the UC system which I've already finished that application (transfers honors to UCLA, all set there). I'm now figuring out how to apply to other colleges, like USC, Stanford, Pepperdine, etc.

Junior transfers post their high school SAT scores because they are sometimes required while trying to transfer to certain universities like Stanford. There are no exceptions to that requirement, unfortunately. Transfer admissions to Stanford are highly selective and SAT scores will be just one part of your transfer application.

Not all private universities require SAT scores though.

Also keep in mind that most privates, particularly the ones you listed, do not factor academic renewal. If you earned a D or F, it counts. They will calculate your gpa based on all courses taken, that they consider transferable. If you retake classes, they typically will just given you the average of both grades.

Transferring to Stanford is highly unlikely. They only take a handful of transfers a year and they are often transferring from schools like Cornell.

A large number of schools use the common app - more and more each year, but there are still some outliers.

Many privates require HS records once accepted- no idea why. I applied to a couple of privates and had to track down HS transcripts. I don’t know how they work with GEDs.

What thread are you reading that doesn’t show majors? If it’s the one pinned to the top of this page, people do say their major…

Thanks candles, Stanford wasn’t really on my radar, it was more of an example, so I’m not too worried about that. The only two I’m doing for the common app are USC and LMU. From my understanding, I should qualify for both. Thanks for your help, really appreciate it.

Thread I was referring to: <a href=“Official 2013 Transfer Decisions - Transfer Students - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/transfer-students/1477821-official-2013-transfer-decisions.html</a></p>

@2016Candles‌ just browsing through pages and found this thread. The reason privates often ask for hs records is to see if you graduated.

I suppose, but it just seems silly to me. If a person has already completed two years at a community college or some other university, I’m not really sure why it even matters if they graduated high school. If the grades or courses aren’t being used for admission or graduation requirements, why should it matter?

I mean I didn’t mind having to get my high school transcripts from my community college because that prevented me from having to take a foreign language for IGETC. That made sense to me. But just to have high school transcripts just because seems silly. Oh the hoops we jump through to get what we want :-)

I agree. My daughter applied to Santa Clara u and she had to send them. Maybe it’s important for them to see a graduation, I don’t know. Anyway, it was definitely unexpected.
