Hey everyone...this has been bothering me for a while now, and as I'm going to orientation fairly soon, I would appreciate some advice. I've read on different threads that taking a Fiat Lux course will mess with a GPA (pass=C); I've also read and heard that they're very fun, low-key, and simply to get you thinking. I plan on heading to law school, and I don't want a C (no matter what it means, eg pass) on my transcript...please clarify me on how the FL courses will really affect you.

It doesn't seem fair that I have to exclude myself from a 1 unit course that I want to take advantage of as a freshman in the honors program. (Wow, what a sentence..lol)

im pretty sure law schools understand seminars to be P/NP and will not penalize you for that
plus in the grand scheme of things, even if you take 1 FL each quarter of your freshmen year, they'll understand its only 3 P/NP units out of 180+ required for graduation.

however, a law school student who attended UCLA for undergrad should probably clarify this ( or anyone who's knowledgeable in this matter =] )

a pass does not count as a C. it just counts as a pass with no number grade. similarly, a fail does not count as a F (i think). it just counts as a no-pass with no number grade. P/NP classes are not calculated into your UCLA GPA.

as far as law school goes, from what i've heard, if you pass, then the class is omitted from your law school app GPA. if you fail though, then it'll count as a fail grade on your GPA.

fiat luxes are a great quick fix for honors units in case you're in a jam, but don't over do it with the pass/no pass units, since most professional schools want to see that you actually tried to get a letter grade in a class
