Fighting Internet Addiction

How do you manage not to spend unlimited time on the Internet? This is for all of us who want to get or maintain a life.
So far, I'm doing more activities and being invited to more events than ever, but I'm afraid that since my spring classes are almost finished I might falter again. Hopefully I get one of the jobs I applied for or that Internship. Hopefully my new friends keep in contact with me and we get to hang out. So for all of us who want an active summer, how do we do this?

you keep hanging out with your new friends,
and eventually the internet doesn’t seem as interesting

you seem to be doing well so far, keep it up :)

Take away the things that you’re doing for fun on the internet but aren’t productive(ex. if you play video games). I’ve been on a computer since I was five and it was hard to do this but is necessary. Self control, do you have it?

Will power… if you have any.

You need to have self control in order to break the habit. Self control is something that you learn over time and perfect each time you practice. I use to be heavily addicted to the internet back in high school and I’ve broken away from it to the point that I only spend one to two hours online each day (productive and non-productive). Once you start doing things outside of the computer you’ll realize how boring the internet really is.

If you feel that you’re spending too much time online, simply exit out of what you’re doing and walk away. It’s easier then you’d imagine once you get use to it.

Finding activities and friends is very helpful. Getting a job is even moreso. Just try to keep yourself busy. Having a lot of free time often leads to addictions so keep distracted :)

I spend unlimited time on the Internet, and have a very busy life. I work 35 hours a week, and also analyze financial markets constantly which involves being in front of the screen 24/7.

so it makes sense.

Here are some good articles about getting off the Internet, if anyone is interested:

Anyone have any scare tactics? Like if one spends too much time on the Internet one can become an ugly, fat, unkempt, loser basement-dweller who fails at life? It sounds better if it’s a true story…

um you might end up like the kids at 4chan, thats all i got

^ Like the kids who use /b/? That is scary. /b/ is the arsehole of the Internet and I’m ashamed of even knowing what /b/ is. I accidentally stumbled upon it and read it for 15 minutes. Those 15 minutes scared me for life. :(

yah somethin like that, lol sorry i forgot to PM you. I remember you are the person who had good taste in books and music.

^ That’s okay. PM me whenever you feel like it lol. If anything, I should have PM’d you first.

Vehicle, one-two hours every day is actually quite a long time … lol.

^ Really? Then I’m worse than a crack addict. I don’t know how long I spend on the Internet, but it’s probably longer than two hours.

Yeah that’s a good idea…spend even more time on the internet searching for something to help against internet addiction…brilliant.

^ I’m actually spending a lot more time outside the Internet. I just came back from clubbing. Plus I can’t talk about such things in real life. It’s too embarrassing and people will think I’m pathetic.
I printed out those articles so I don’t have to go online for them.

Step 1: delete CC account.

TV!

Anyway, hanging out with friends is the best.

Step 3: ???

Hey! Where’s Step 2!
