When transferring from a semester OOS 4-year university, how do you figure out which courses satisfy the general ed and major requirements for the quarter system at UCD? I understand that coming from a CCC there are programs in place (ASSIST?), but there does not appear to be much available for those students coming from a non-CC/CSU/UC situation. Is there any advising available other than studying the General Catalog and trying to match up course descriptions?

Not really…
I did a semester at an OOS private school and for the most part my counselor told me that general intro classes (intro to psychology, english composition I, general chemistry I) usually get accepted and less universal classes (history of India, ethnic women in literature, religion in American society) usually don’t.

It’s best to do over 60 units to be safe too because a class you think might satisfy a particular GE might not be okay at some UCs and you’ll be considered ineligible for admission. It’s evaluated differently by each UC though and I’ve heard of second/third tier UCs letting those with 58/59 transferrable units make it up over the summer before.

Good luck!

This is one of the biggest disadvantages in transferring from an out of state or non-UC 4 year college. Comparing course titles and descriptions is your best option to determine an estimate of which courses will be UC transferable and which courses they might articulate to.
