The University of California had their due dates today and I just realized I forgot to add the school codes to my fafsa. I submitted the fafsa application before the deadline, but won't be able to correct mistakes after the deadline since my application is still processing.

If I revise my application and add the school codes to my application after the school's fafsa submit date, will it be considered a late fafsa application to the school? Did I just screw myself over for any potential state and university aid?

Also, I was considering filling out a paper application with the correct revisions right now and buying postage online to make the 3/2 deadline. But the bad side is that it would take 6 weeks to process, and I'm sure the electronic application would've processed by then.

I tried googling and searching the forums for some answers, but couldn't find any. So, thank you so much in advance for your replies and help.

Yes, unfortunately I left out all the codes to schools I am applying to and stupidly only included the current CC I’m at.

Will the university be able to see that I originally submitted the fafsa application in time when I amend the application? or does it not matter, because I didn’t include their school code in the original submission?

The school needs to have the FAFSA information in hand by the submission date because that is when they start processing them. You will still be eligible for direct student loans, but the risk that you have now is that all of their other money like Pell grants and financial aid that the school itself gives out may have already been passed out by the time they get to looking at your financial needs.

Pell grant will not be affected by the date of FAFSA filing. It is not one of the campus based federal programs with limited funding. Those campus based programs (SEOG, Perkins, and Work Study), do run out of funding early.

Pell is an entitlement. The student will get this if eligible, even if submitting late for the colleges.

This student needs to contact the colleges directly to see the implications of submitting the FAFSA late…which is what has happened. The missing code schools were NOT submitted on time. I would guess you aren’t the first student to make this mistake. But NO, those colleges won’t see that you submitted earlier…because you did NOT submit to THEM. But do call and ask. Only the colleges can tell you for, sure.

I will say…I hope you are not talking about Calgrant deadlines…because my understanding is those have no wiggle room!
