Hi I'm an incoming transfer student for Fall 2014 but I am unsure which years to file for on FAFSA :/

I plan on transferring Fall of 14 to a UC however I am concerned that if I file a FAFSA for 13-14 it might interfere with the original FAFSA that I am supposed to send for UC. I am in a CC right now for Spring 2014 semester but I would like to file one just in case I am able to get aid. I am hesitant because had I not been thinking of trying to get aid for CC, I would have just filed the 14-15 FAFSA...

Another thing to note is that they require a FAFSA especially since I am applying for scholarships.. but those are said to be granted in march-may when admission decisions get out..however the second FAFSA session only begins in July 1st 2014 to June 30th 2015. How does that timing work?

What should I do? Should I just file the 14-15 first and then turn in one for 13-14? Am I even allowed to do that? Am I able to file FAFSA for both year sessions? Any transfer students who has had experience with this (or not) who can help?

Please and thanks in advance and sorry if my questions are a bit confusing...

You can file for both years. There are no issues caused by doing that.

Why are you completing a 2013-2014 FAFSA?

Um…the 2013-2014 FAFSA is for the current academic year that ends summer 2014. Are you saying you haven’t completed that and need to do so for this current (January 2014) term?

If you are applying to a college for the 2014-2015 school year, the one starting in fall 2014, you complete the 2014-2015 FAFSA for THAT whole school year.

The 2013-2014 FAFSA will not be applicable to the year beginning fall 2014.

Ok thanks ~

I was thinking of filing a 2013-14 FAFSA because since I am in CC right now, I wanted to try to see if I would receive anything for this semester. I heard that if I do receive a grant for this semester then I would simply be reimbursed the tuition fees that I had already paid for.

And yes, that is what I am saying, that I haven’t completed for the Jan 2014 term. I wasn’t planning to originally because I had only planned to complete for Fall 2014 for when I transfer, but when I saw the 2 choices of 13-14 and 14-15, I had second thoughts.

:/

So I can do that? FAFSA will allow me to file for both sessions? If that’s true that’d be great . and thank you for the responses :)

Yes you can file both FAFSA forms.

Yes you can file the 2013/14 and see if you get an award for the spring.

Don’t hesitate to file the FAFSA for 2014/15 ASAP so you can get an accurate aid package with your acceptance for fall and not miss any opportunity to get aid–some types of can run out. The way the timing works is that the notification you get in March is for your Fall school year and based on your 2014/15 FAFSA.

After than you will continue to file a FAFSA for each year you are in college.
