Filling out fasfa

So I recently filed for fasfa and I’ve been having a doubt if I should just drop out of my local community college. I didn’t want to file for fasfa bc both my parents file as head of household on their taxes when they’re married. My dad claims only me and my sister & my mom my other siblings. When I filed for fasfa I only put my dads tax info since he claims me & now my fasfa is being verified and need his tax transcripts. Has anybody else gone through this?

I don’t think both of your parents CAN file as head of household if they are married and living together.

The tax filing status isn’t correct…and until its corrected, I don’t believe you can receive any need based aid.

Plus…if your parents are married…it is REQUIRED that the income and assets from BOTH parents be reported on the fafsa regardless of tax filing status.

@BelknapPoint ??

If the parents are married and live together in the same house, neither of them can legally file as head of household. They should only be filing one return as married filing jointly or two returns as married filing separately.

Edited to add: if both parents are custodial parents under the FAFSA definition, then the income and assets of both parents must be reported on FAFSA.
