For a good part of junior year and senior year I have been knocking my head around whether I should major in Film/video studies and minor in cs or the reverse. After a while, the thought of majoring in both of them became more prominent but kind of scares me because I hear a lot to usually minor in things that overlap which those majors don't. Opinions?

Hi Roberto, If you are on the fence and don’t mind taking extra advanced math classes, a CompSci degree will be a lot more useful on the job market. If film/video is your passion and you can’t see yourself doing anything else, than by all means go for it. I assume you’re interested in GMU since you’re posting here. GMU has a excellent CompSci program, and I would encourage you to express your interest early so you get invited to their open house/lunch for prospective computer science majors. Graduates from GMU’s undergrad CompSci program average a starting salary of almost 60,000. You’re not going to earn that in too many fields right out of college. You have to be up for the advanced math & tech classes, of course, and feel that it’s something you really want to pursue as a career.

Yeah, I already got accepted into GMU through ea and I’m really excited. I visited the campus a couple times and loved it. The big reason that I want to major in both of them is that I am passionate about them both and can see myself doing both of them after college. The thing about the film studies major is that I want to make my own films but I don’t need that to be a job or even a career which is where the cs major comes in. Thanks for the comment :)
