Film at Berkley: Hands on or no?

I'm looking to go into a film major (probably production - I like the more technical side but don't want to end up being a button pusher) as well as keeping computer engineering open as an option. UC Berkley looks so far like it fits my criteria. I suppose the most important things are that I actually get to WORK with video production (not a school like UCLA where all you do is study films, not make them) and that I have some freedom to explore other fields.

I found http://www.caltv.org/ which seems a pretty big indicator that they'd be hands on enough for me, but what do you all have to say?

I’m not a Film Studies major, but I believe for the major it is less on video production and more of the analysis of history and meaning in films. There is Cal TV, but that’s a separate entity from the film studies major, although I would assume a large portion of people in the major would want to be involved in it. I would assume that the major is actually similar to UCLA’s program where it’s more of studying rather than making films, although there are many opportunities out there for being involved with video production.
