Decision time. I've done some research on studying film at these three schools. Was hoping to get other people's opinions. Thanks!

P.S. Love all three places and would be happy (socially, etc.) at any of them. Leaning towards Wes, but changing my mind every 2 minutes.

I'm a film student too. Brown has terrible arts, I mean terrible. But, the prestige of the school will help you get in to great graduate programs.

Ok, now the big question. Are you interested in production or more studies? Wesleyan isn't known for great production, but there film studies program is known pretty well. Vassar doesn't really have film production, only film studies.

Did you apply to any more film oriented programs? As in Northwestern, NYU, USC?

Film studies. All three places have some production courses, but I figure I could learn most of that technical stuff either on my own or elsewhere. I'm more interested in learning about what makes a good/moving/memorable film, within a general liberal arts education. No, didn't apply to the more technical places like NYU, USC, UCLA.

Jiminyarrivederci - Vassar has an excellent film studies program, but it hasn't reached the level of maturity that Wesleyan's has. Networking is crucial if you expect to actually make a living in the arts and neither Vassar nor Brown have quite the number of alumni working successfully in film and television.

I was in a similiar predictment a few months ago deciding between Vassar and Wesleyan as an aspiring film student. I decided to go with Wesleyan (got in ED). Here is why...

I spent the entire summer at Vassar in their Summer Filmmaking Workshop, it was great, unforgettable experience, working one-on-one with a great old professor (editor of Purple Rain, o hell ya!). I would have to say that the facilities/equipment are amazing for a small liberal arts school. Wes has new facilities too, but i still dont think they compare. not bad, but not the same. However, from talking with other vassar film kids they seemed lukewarm with their film studies professors in general. One interesting point, my professor showed us a dozen or so student films throughout the summer, interesting enough, only a single film from vassar compared with 10 or more from USC (his old employer, and he taught at vassar for 15 yrs). interesting...

Like JohnWesley said, networking, just IMDB Wesleyan and see the accomplished alumni and then compare to Vassar with essentially 0 successful alumni in the industry (not talking about actors). Wesleyan rivals much larger NW. No connections at Vassar.

Finally, Bassinger (dept. chair) seems like an amazing lady and I would love to work with her. However, she seems to have befriended Michael Bay...

Wesleyan grads like to direct/produce big-bad Hollywood action flicks.

I've met bassinger, and she's such an amazing woman! She almost made me choose wes over nyu. Almost...haha.
