Film Interviews for Transfers Fall 2018

I applied to transfer to UCLA TFT program for the fall of 2018 for film. Do they always request interviews for potential candidates? Have those happened yet? I know it is a super competitive program but just thought I would check to see if anybody knows anything about the process after initial applications are submitted.

Thank you!

I’m also a transfer applicant for UCLA’s film program. I haven’t heard anything back from them either. Has anyone been requested for an interview?

Interviews usually occur later especially if you’re a transfer. Look for late March early April

Have anyone received a call/email already for an interview? From what I have noticed the previous year’s threads, they are about to start making the calls already.

I received an email today, however I believe they are on a rolling basis and will continue to go out until the end of this week.

Congrats! Do you know if the interviews are in April?

Thank you! The email stated interviews would be held via Skype on March 24th and 25th. But, I forgot to mention, I am already a UCLA student, and applied to the program as a change of major, so they might not have sent emails for students transferring from outside universities.

Good luck to everyone! Don’t let stats discourage you!

I’m an external transfer and I got an email yesterday. Interviews are this weekend.

I read in some past threads that they announce admissions for TFT before the April 25th date. Does anyone know if they are going to notify denied/waitlist/admitted shortly after the interviews?

I read a transfer thread from last year, and appears that all students were notified on April 26th.

Have they accepted people without an interview? I wasn’t contacted for an interview now I’m worried.

In the past they have but I don’t see how they would accept people who didn’t interview! I didn’t get one either I wonder when they send admissions

Agh I am getting extremely nervous abt this… If I don’t get an interview, does that mean I have a lower chance of getting accepted?

Hello UCLA Film transfers! Although I am not applying as a Film major to UCLA (i’m Pre-History) I was scrolling through the profile of admitted transfer students and I was utterly shocked that the Film and Television major for Fall 2017 had 601 applicants with a mere 3% acceptance rate! I never knew Film was such a competitive major at UCLA! Anyways, I just wanted to mention that because of the extremely low acceptance rate for Film, I have heard that a lot of transfers apply for non-impacted majors and then simply add Film as a minor - that way they can have a better chance at UCLA while still pursuing their passions for Film. Maybe this can be an alternative strategy for anyone here who might get rejected for this cycle - you can choose to wait an additional year and then apply for a non-impacted major with the intention of adding Film as a minor if you get in for the next cycle. Good luck everyone!

For what I have observed in the threads from past years, if they don’t call you for an interview it means that you were rejected.
Sad news for most of us since the interviews cycle happened this past weekend, according to some folks in this thread.

BYE BYE UCLA T-T

I’m not saying anybody here is lying but the weight of the interview or how it is actually used in the evaluation process without actual input from the university isn’t something we can assume even based off past interviews and admission years. Some schools have it as an optional part of their admission process, some schools only extend offers to students they with to potentially admit, and some use it as a last-stand way if they’re going to admit a person or let them go. Some just use it as a way of finding out more about the student that was not conveyed in the initial application, Again, it’s hard to determine without input from the university.

Good luck to everyone, apparently transfer decisions come out tomorrow! Just a reminder Tarantino, Guy Ritchie, James Cameron, Spike Jonze, Ridley Scott, Christopher Nolan, and countless others didn’t go to film school!
