Hey, are there any potential film majors out there? If so, where are you applying? Thanks!

Well, I'm only a junior, but I'm interested in Northwestern's Film major.

I heard Northwestern has a great program. I looked into it and pretty much realized I'd never get in. Zach Braff went there.

What part of film are you interested in concentrating on? Personally I find screen-writing to be the most interesting

I love screen writing too, I definitely want to concentrate on that but I'm also really interested in directing.

My dad, who is a film professor, says screen writing is the thing to do. write one great script and you can pretty much be set for life. he wishes he had started writing years ago when one of his professors at NU told him to.

I thought NU didn't require a portfolio for admission in the film major...

That's really cool your dad is a film professor! I wish I had good connections like that. I definitely want to screen write at some point and hopefully I won't suck at it. I'm not sure if NU requires a portfolio. I just know I couldn't get in based on my general stats.

What's easier than NU to get in statistically speaking rhapsody?

I'm not sure I understand your question.

i am going to major in theatre but some of my art school friends will major in film. schools they like besides northwestern are ucla, usc, nyu, cal arts, north carolina school of the arts, florida state, purchase college and emerson.

USC has a great program--if I do end doing something film related that would definetely be a first choice for grad school.

USC is awesome, I considered applying but I chose not to because I live too far away (NY). I applied to NYU (rejected), Emerson, Purchase, and also Fordham at Lincoln Center which is pretty decent for film from what I've heard.

Yeah, I'm in OH, and I think I'd just be overwhelmed by USC. I really want to look into NYU, but I think I want a more college-y experience, if you know what I mean.

NYU is a great school and was my first choice (I've since moved on). It doesn't have a traditional campus and I think that you would miss out on that whole community feeling that other colleges have to offer. The film program is great but the school itself is not for everyone I guess.

If any of you guys want to talk more about this, feel free to IM me. My sn is Rhapsody724 (@aol.com).

I am a film student...applying to NYU, USC, northwestern, harvard, and yale (don't blame me on the last too...some of my favorite artists and filmmakers went there ala matthew barney, darren aronofsky)...I love nyu right now, and hate usc but we'll see how I feel in a month.

Wow, that's a pretty impressive list. Best of luck to you!

Does anyone have a list of the top 20 film schools?

http://www.imdb.com/filmschools

maybe that could help?

Yep...thanks!
