film portfolio with no experience?

hi, i'm currently a junior in high school and have very recently become interested in pursuing a film career. however, at most film schools, a creative portfolio is required. the issue is that i have no experience in film, and therefore have no idea how to go about creating a portfolio piece. some schools offer the option of creative writing instead of a film submission...is this a good choice for me? if not, how do i put together a portfolio? what schools often accept applicants with little to no film experience?

A lot of school’s often don’t require film / video related artistic or visual samples. Often they’ll give you options to choose from, ranging from storyboarding still photographs to a few pages of creative writing. Film schools really want to see that you can tell a story so if you’re able to do that with paper and a pen better than with a camera, all the power to you man. A lot of people apply to film school with little or no experience in film - just show that you’re creative and can communicate a story.

I’m a prospective film major too :)

I’m in the same boat, I only had a bing! moment about what I want to major in college. Before, I thought I wanted to do MT/Acting. But, now my plans have changed. Do you do any acting etc? You can get your acting friends to audition for film etc as part of your portfolio
