I was accepted to UCSC and I have been to the campus several times. I spoke with a few grad students and advisers over the course of the past year and half while visiting and what I heard was not so great with regards to Film Production. UCSC offers a good Multimedia Arts… but their Film Production is a whole different story. I would not recommend it for film by any means. The campus is definitely the best one I have ever visited

Oh man, don’t just believe everything you hear. I was at UCSC last weekend, and I got a student tour of the film department. All new equipment, motivated students, and Santa Cruz offers the perfect platform for creative success (beautiful backdrops, interesting people, incredibly laid back atmosphere.) A bunch of people have come out of there too.

Your right in one sense, they don’t exactly offer a traditional “film production” major per say. What they do offer is a comprehensive “film and digital media major.”

Name of the major is really insignificant though, because most of the students I talked to were out shooting films regularly. I even got a super awesome sneak peak at a student made zombie movie.

Anyways, I realize your just stating your opinion, and I’m all for that, but I would be interested to know what you have heard about the program that resulted in you thinking so negatively of it. I would also like to remind you that, disgruntled students often have nothing positive to say, and yet, for every disgruntled student there is two or three students who only have good things to say. You really have to talk to a bunch of people to get an honest opinion of a film school. And, if you think I’m just saying this to promote UCSC, I’m not, I was there visiting a friend. I’m already CSUN bound.

^ 2/3 of the Lonely Island. Nice. Haha.

I turned in my Dodge app Nov 10th, rejected Feb something… for screenwriting.
Congrats to everyone though!

Anyone STILL have decision pending/ dodge film/ D still waiting…
I feel they are waiting till April 1 to reject!

My son still has decision pending on his webadvisor.I am assuming that at this point it is not a good sign. Oh dear.

the bon, not necessarily

hang in there

decision complete. my stats were competitive too (and by competitive i mean great) which makes me sad. oh well

i got into nyu though. whatever.

pipe: NYU is top school in country (Along with USC). You should consider if going to USC and transferring in to SCA is option as well. Lots of students do that…

Still decision pending- should he call to get to the bottom of things? I mean, it doesn’t seem right that some have heard, others turned down and some not heard at all. Don’t these things get done more or less at the same time within a week’s time? It almost feels as though my son’s application got lost in the shuffle…his webadvisor area hasn’t been updated since late January. Any advice? Anyone else tried calling the admissions department?

thebon, the admissions office had said that decisions would be out last week and this week

JohnAdams, I feel like a bit of an impostor, I am using my other son’s college confidential account to communicate for this younger son’s application. The bonj is at college and as such has no further use for this forum, but I am very grateful for any reassurance. Poor guy has a stomach in knots and too nervous to contact the admissions people for fear of annoying them or worse getting the bad news early!
Thanks for the quick response!

Anyone still not heard one way or another???

thebonj

When my daughter’s app had not changed and when I continued to see other kids were changing, my husband sent our area advisor an email and he has been very nice in easing our minds. We thought perhaps her app had fallen through the cracks too. Her status changed to admission accepted last thursday and we are now waiting on her acceptance letter. My husband emailed him again regarding that and he got a response right away, that same day. We are from Colorado so I depending where you are from and who your advisor is I would email him, its worth a shot. I know how crazy it can be waiting for a decesion, It is hard on everyone.

Thanks para729, I just emailed the correct advisor and hopefully will clear up the mystery. It’s all getting stranger than ever. You at least heard a week ago. Still ‘decision pending’ as of today… How can there be such a large delay in releasing admission notices? Makes no sense to me!

thebonj

I agree with you in that it is odd it is taking so long. Good luck to your son!!!

talked to admissions today…

the letter comes about 1 to 1 1/2 weeks after the change from “decision pending” on the web portal

thebonj, have you heard back from the advisor yet? I e-mailed ours last week and have heard nothing.

Has anyone received an admissions decision in the mail while WebAdvisor still said “decision pending?”

hello filmparent, my son got the dreaded ‘decision complete’ yesterday. I am surprised to say the least. He had a 3.8 GPA, is a member of SAG (for acting in a film and doing commercials when he was still a kid) and had (I thought) decent SATs 700 CR and 630 M and 720 W. He did a very daring application film, too noir I assume for sunny Californians, and maybe he didn’t have enough civic-minded ECs but otherwise it’s really baffling.

Hi again, the bonj. My son’s SAT scores were similar. A combined total of 2050. Also a strong application. My suspicion is that they filled up all their slots early on, before reviewing all the applications, and the kids whose applications didn’t get reviewed until April no longer had a shot. Based on the feedback we got, they admitted that he was certainly well-qualified, but that there was limited space due to the huge increase in applications this year. Not surprising, given that they seemed to start sending out acceptance letters to some students in February. Does anyone know if one can apply to Dodge for Film Production for the spring semester?
