We live in PA. My son has ben proactive and narrowed down the best schools to look into on the East Coast. He is looking at U of Miami, NYU and Temple to Study Film Production and Editing. We thought of Drexel but it is super expensive and they do not give out a lot of scholarship money as well as the whole campus setting (all over the place). He has a 4.0 GPA did well on ACT’s and SAT’s. While I am leaning towards Temple as he would be close, I want him to be able to spread his wings. Any suggestions?
If you are worried about scholarship money, then I’d remove NYU. They are the stingiest of all. Drexel is much more generous than NYU.
How good is “well” on the ACT/SAT. What is your EFC for these schools (are you eligible for some FA or are only looking for Merit aid)?
NYU is not only stingy with aid, it’s more expensive than Drexel, so that choice makes no sense based on your reasoning. (especially that with Drexel you could do co-op(s) that would theoretically help with the tuition.)
Other schools to consider, ones that have good film programs: Florida State, Emerson College, Chapman University, Columbia College in Chicago, Wesleyan University, Syracuse University – and of course, the “top dogs” USC, UCLA. They’re all costly.
I’d look into Emerson. Not sure how they are with aid though.
You really should look into VCUARTS . Its the #2 ranked art school in the entire country behind only Yale.
Reasonable price and great film program . Competitive as all heck though to get in. and there is merit money.
They have a Honor’s Program at Emerson that includes 50% tuition President’s Scholarship if you get in. I’ve never been to the campus but from description it sounds like NYUs, BUs , etc.
Also I’m not sure what you mean with the Drexel campus being all over the place. I know it’s not particularly attractive compared to traditional college campuses but Main Campus is all together and not that spread out. The campus in Center City and Queen Lane are part of the Medical and related programs so I’m pretty sure a film major will not have classes there. That being said if you like Temple better it’s probably a better choice especially if you can get the full tuition scholarship with your stats.
Univ of NC in Wilmington is known for film on the east coast. There’s also Emerson and Wesleyan.
Boston University has a great TV and Film program
